Based on your attached image, seems you're striking the orb that makes the snake's path 30 tiles. Think about the implications of that. Also about what the other options provide.

×Hitting the "30" orb makes it so that the snake is perfectly synced up with the spawn cycle. So if it blocks the tar it will do that every cycle. What you want is for the snake to block the tar for exactly two cycles (three if you include the first cycle in which tar actually expands and isn't blocked by the snake) and then to not block the tar at all the cycle after that.

×If you go with the "26" scroll, the snake will be 4 turns faster every time around the loop, and so if the tale of the snake is 8 tiles behind (12,9) (assuming based on your picture that it is going clockwise) it will be 4 tiles behind at the next spawn (just enough to barely block growth) and then right at (12,9) at the final spawn allowing tar to block off the corridor. Kill the mother to prevent babies from forming in the bad spot and you are good to go.
If you don't want to do the math, I did it by going invisible when the tale was at (10,15) and then stepping on the second potion to become visible again on turn 30 (again going clockwise.)
