From the workshop of PopCap, the casual games publisher which gave us Zuma, Bejeweled, Peggle and a few others, comes Plants vs. Zombies. At the core of it, PvZ is a variety of a defense game: There are Zombies on the lawn, and they are hungry for some brains! It's up to you to plant your defenses and show them that we don't want Zombies on the lawn.

The gameplay is divided to levels, featuring increasingly challenging waves of Zombies. After each new level of the main adventure mode, you discover a new plant, increasing your choices. Of course, new enemies are introduced frequently as well. The game spans several environments which vary the gameplay a bit - normal, at night, with a pool, on the roof and so on.

Now, the game is not very hard. I wasn't kidding, your mom can play it. Successfully. For quite a while. The game is easy, addictive and a lot of fun (hey, remember when games used to be fun). It's also packed full of extra content: there are quite a lot of minigames, many with nods to other PopCap games, and after you go through all the other content, there are three, count them three, completely different infinite play challenges where the goal is to survive as many waves as possible.

All in all, the game is pure PopCap. From the catchy music, perfectly fit sounds and tongue-in-cheeck attitude, it's a polished casual masterpiece. I recommend it to everyone and their dog. It's like 20 bucks on the official site and 10 bucks on Steam. Go buy it, seriously, you won't regret it.

It's 20 bucks over steam.

I think the biggest flaw, for me at least playing the demo, was that it had no challenge whatsoever.

It's exactly 10 bucks over Steam... do you live in some weird country with 100% internet tax?

And yes, it's not much of a challenge until you get to the unlockable challenge modes.

It's called 'anywhere in Europe'.

For some reason Steam feels that euros and american dollars are the same thing.

Wait, all Steam games cost 1.4 times more to anyone living in Europe?
That sucks. Why would they do that?

Also, what happens if I buy it for 9.99$ as a gift to someone in Europe? Any Europeans willing to try?

After some research, the following points emerge:
* For many Steam games, they do modify the European prices to match the US ones (so it's 9.99$ in US and 6+ Euros in Europe).
* For all the rest, European prices is the dollar price in Euros, and it seems to be the default.
* Gifting games to Europeans for US prices does work, and lots of people use this.

In conclusion, if you live in Europe and use Steam, many of the prices are stacked against you for some inexplicable reason.

Also, I'm willing to help any Europeans on this forum get the games cheaper where applicable. I'll gift you the game, you'll PayPal me the US price back, and everyone are happy.

My median nerve and I want to thank you very much for recommending this game. I've actually had to stop playing mid-game because my hand goes totally numb. Hmm... as though zombies had eaten it. *checks* Nope. Still there.

By using Cheat Engine, we can open several hidden minigames inside Plants vs Zombies.
