The Kingdome of Loathing is a FREE MMORPG that will only take 15 minutes per day to play, at most. It's turn-based, and the main "levelling" content takes turns (called "Adventures" ). You can do other things without using your Adventures up, and the game is freaking hilarious. And the graphics are worthy of Pictionary!

Seriously, it's pretty fun, and it's not much of a time sink because of the turn limit (you get 40 Adventures per day, 80 on the first day to get you started), although if you stick around to chat you can take more time (and the method they have of activating the chat feature is priceless--when you see it, you'll agree). A fun little thing to do on your lunch break, or DROD break, or whatever.

Game on,

Sounds kinda like tradewars from my BBSing days... boy did I love that game...
Well, it sounds nothing like it except for the turns per day thing. But oooh boy, the thrills I got from playerkilling in that game...

I needed a break, so I decided to check this out. The first thing I did after logging in was to accidentally use the seal tooth in my inventory.
You can't think of anything useful to do with the seal tooth, so you use it to poke yourself in the finger. It hurts a lot, and you finger doesn't work quite as well afterward.

You lose 1 Strengthliness.

You acquire an effect: Bloody Hand
(duration: 3 Adventures)
Sadly, after this stroke of genius kingdomofloathing.com pulled a drod.net and became inaccessible. I'll check it out more later.

LOL, sounds more magnificent then I had thought before. I do hope it's up after I finish eating, because I can hardly wait to play. Progress Quest is not quite as entertaining as it once was, and I had to cut back from the 32 characters I was playing at once, because it was killing my computer. But boy, was I progressing. Hopefully this will make for a good replacement.

You've got to love a game where the player classes are:

Seal Clubber
Turtle Tamer
Pastamancer
Sauceror
Disco Bandit
Accordion Thief

If you haven't tried, you're missing out. It's ridiculously fun, and silly, yet engaging, with what seems to be a pretty decent amount of complexity.

And it has the word asparagustab.

What are you waiting for?

Oh yeah, watch out for Drizzo the Pastamancer. He's one bad wet noodle wielding stick figure.

I've been playing KoL for a few weeks now, and am a level 5 Pastamancer. (A "Carbohydrate Cognoscenti," though I preferred the previous title: "Noodle Neophyte.")

If you want to message me: My username is Kaonis, and I'm member #27275.

A quick look at my vital stats:

Maximum Hit Points: 28
Maximum Mana Points: 37
Muscle: 24 [base: 21]
Mysticality: 30 [base: 27]
Moxie: 21 [base: 18]
Meat: 414

Equipment:
Hat: balloon helmet (Power: 60)
Weapon: Dr. Hobo's scalpel (Power: 40)
Pants: bloody clown pants (Power: 60)
Accessory: shiny ring
Accessory: Pine-Fresh air freshener
Accessory: continuum transfunctioner

Current Familiar:
Bombus, the 18 pound Mosquito (328 kills)

IDEA: Is anyone here able to make a clan (need to be level 7)? If not, then when I reach level 7, I'll start a DROD clan.

Sign me up for that clan, I'm so hooked already on this game... Although I must say, I'd prefer if they gave you new moves at 6 am instead of midnight...
I'm usually up at midnight, so I'll take them pretty much immediately... I'm already twitchy to play tomorrow's moves. Also, if I did happen to be up at 6 am, I imagine there would be less delay that I experienced at midnight tonight when I tried to use my second day of moves.
I'm surprised you're still using the Hobo scalpel... I got that today with both of my characters. And I must say it rocks. But if I ain't got something more intimidating in a couple weeks I'll be disappointed.

Anyway, my characters are Drizzo and Lady Stabby (because I've always wanted to roleplay a female seal clubber, haven't you?) so keep an eye out.

I guess it's good you only get 40 moves, otherwise I'd probably burn myself out, and waste plenty of valuable lifetime while I was at it.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, that I made a Pastamancer named, of course, Oneiromancer. (I didn't realize that your login name was your character's name, I thought you'd get to choose another name besides that one.) Level 3 as of today.

Some beginning suggestions: I believe that Cobb's Knob is the best place to get your Muscle up, the Haunted Pantry is the best place to get Magicalness up, and the Sleazy Back Alley is the best place to get Moxie up.

Also, apparently this game is still in beta, and when it goes Live it will have a pretty much complete character wipe. So don't get too attached to your stuff...although it will be at least a few more weeks from what I understand.

Game on,

I'm a level 6 Spaghetti Sage now, so I only need 8 more mysticality to be able to create a clan. I'm thinking "Smitemaster's Guild" would be appropriate. New Adventures come at 11p.m. my time, and I usually use them immediately. Also, nobody mentioned it, but it is possible to gain extra adventures during the day by consuming alcoholic beverages, or eating foods. Don't get too drunk though, or you'll lose fights and lose meat (and when you chat it says *hic* after every sentence. :))

I'm no longer using Hobo's Scalpel, now I've got a can of maces:
"This is a spray can filled with tiny maces. Ouch!" It's more powerful than the scalpel, but it doesn't have the +3 Melee damage enchantment. *torn*

I got a new familiar last night, Halph, a 1 pound Grue. And I got a charming house built at my campsite, though I'm not sure what it does yet. :)

Oddly enough, I'm known as "Schik" in this game, and would certainly join a Smitemaster's Guild given the chance.

I just started today, and on my very last turn I got the crap beat out of me. I'm not being vulgar, that's what it tells me - "You've had the crap beaten out of you. You're going to need some more crap."

Anyone have any crap they can spare?

Okay, some kind soul on the chat has given me enough food to heal me up. And some beer, and a Cocoa Egg that will apparently grow into a Familiar once I get a terrarium.

I must say, after just one day, this is about the coolest game of this type I've ever seen. I'm already becoming dangerously addicted, which has never happened to me in this type of game.

Pirate Pelvis

This is the pelvis of a pirate. Alas, it no longer posesses any booty. Arrr.

Favorite item I've seen: Flaming Crutch
"This is like a normal crutch, only it's on fire. This would be useful if you found youself without the use of one of your legs, and posessed of fireproof armpits." Just wait until you get access to the Mall of Loathing, where you can just search for items you want (of course, shopkeepers tend to overprice items).

I too, am addicted to this game. Since the second day of playing it, I've found myself waiting around 11p.m. for my new adventures to come. This is one of only a few of the many RPGs I like, and the only online RPG I've enjoyed.

(edit: What I mean is that I don't like many RPGs, not that KoL is one of many that I like. Makes sense if you remove the word "many.")

Schik, do you know what your familiar does (when its hatched)? I haven't seen a cocoa egg yet. I know mosquitos give you HP from enemies, and grues occasionally bite enemies, and leprechauns return extra meat after fights.

By the way, does anyone need help/have questions? I'll be sure to secret things. The people in the chat are far too quick to spoil things.

Well, here's a haiku describing it:
Chocolate feathers
Healing, fighting, scavenging
Give monsters the bird

I found this on a website: http://www.freewebs.com/thekingdomofloathing/familiars.htm

So I suppose it heals, fights, and scavenges, but I don't really know anything about these familiars yet. I'll just have to wait until I can scrap together 500 meat for my terrarium. Which brings me to...
By the way, does anyone need help/have questions? I'll be sure to secret things. The people in the chat are far too quick to spoil things.
Yeah! What's the quickest way to get a bunch of meat? :)

Edit: Apparently the quickest way is to befriend someone named Kaonis, and have him give you 500 of his hard-earned meat. The moral of the story? Everyone here that's going to join the clan once it's up and running should state so, and we can all help each other out as much as possible. I now have a one pound Cocoabo, thanks to Clayton :). When I get some more adventures tonight, I'll have to take him out for a spin and see what he can do for me.

Yikes! I can't give 500 to everyone! :D

I probably wouldn't have given you that much, except that I had gotten 10,000 meat during a quest, (And this is a quest that I think everyone runs across at one point, you'll get a leaflet from the Council) and 500 didn't seem like all that much. In any case, I've only got 19 meat right now. I spent all that glorious meat!

If you need more meat, you can do like I did and spend your no-more-adventures time to win 600 + 150 + 150 meat at the casino (in a row!). Of course, that place is also the quickest way to lose meat :rolleyes

Huh... I thought it took an adventure to get in there, hence the (1) by it. Does that just mean you need to get the Casino pass? I don't have one of those either, and I don't know about spending 100 meat just to lose more meat by gambling... ;)

Ouch! Now I feel bad for taking 500... Hopefully I'll be able to return the favor soon.

I'm saxogds, the accordeon thief, and on my second day I'm at level 3 (level 4 seems so far away, I need 4 more moxie). I have completed the toot oriole training, have found the dolphin king's and Dr. Hobo's treasures. I've got two more maps (slug lord's and spooky temple) which I haven't figured out how to solve yet.

Today I've got my first familiar, Gorg the 1 pound mosquito. I spent all my meat on a terranium but haven't had time to see what it does as I've run out of adventures.

I've got one question: What are tatoos for ? (you can see them in account. I've got a tatoo from the artist in the wrong side of track but selecting it does not seem to have any effect.

I can't wait to join the smitemaster's guild.

Well, I've learned a few things playing KoL tonight. One is that Lady Stabby can get a lot more free items than Drizzo. So I logged back on to see if I could help gds with his map issues, and heard a fellow named grumdirge ask if there were any hungry noobs.

I say "I'm a hungry noob"
Next thing I know, I've recieved a good 15 items from Grumdirge and Atma, and I find myself with enough food and drink for 19 adventures, 10 mysticality, and 10 cans of mountain soda (15 mana). A complete set of 1337 equipment (which I can't even wear yet) a ring of half-assed regeneration, then Gobmar gives me some good equipment I can wear and a little more food. I level up to 4 (a starch savant now) and Grimdirge offers to sell a Cocoabo egg. Apparently the best familiar, or so Gobmar tells me with much enthusiasm. Unfortunately Grimdirge is selling it for 300.
"I only have 257"
I see another private message from him containing a cocoabo egg... and 1000 meat.

Then gobmar gave me some breath spray, and I found a white fence, and then ran out of adventures.

I'd ask for food, but I'm afraid I may end up playing all night with the generosity I just experienced.

Anyway, thanks for being confused gds. I owe it all to you. So if you see Drizzo or Lady Stabby on, give 'em a holla, and I'll pass you some of my now obsolete equipment. Or even better, just keep an eye out for Grimdirge, he is awesome.

edit: oh yeah, I take back what I said about Lady Stabby getting more free stuff.

It's pretty awesome that people are being so nice in this game. I haven't really asked for help in the chat, just piddling around and always noticing something else I should have done right when I hit 0 adventures.

However, I will be a pessimist and say that one reason why people might be giving away so much stuff is that they won't be able to keep it all when the beta ends. It's amazing how generous you can get with stuff that's going to poof in a few weeks (link, possibly next month, but you get a 2 week warning).

So, enjoy it while it lasts, and learn everything you can so when the reset happens, you can level up again as efficiently as possible!

Game on,

Drizzo's last post is awfully tempting. I'm thinking we shouldn't post any explicit hints about the game (secreted or not) unless someone asks for that info, then secret it. I mean, some of what you posted you haven't even done yourself. :huh

I'm really afraid of the KoL chat pane, many are eager to spoil clues and give away plot items.

Also, as Neil said earlier, KoL is going to be reset this/next month, so everything we're doing will be lost (except for maybe 1 familiar). Even if we get our Smitemaster's Guild started soon, it will be destroyed during the reset. Then I guess whoever starts the clan is whoever reaches level 7 first. *sniffle* (I wanted to do it!!!!) :weep

I think you should still start one up, assuming you get to level 7. It would be nice to get a little experience with what a clan can do, so that we know what we're doing next time, after the reset.

You know, this game is just - wow. It looks like it should be terrible but somehow manages to be extremely addictive. Pity I started a bit late.

Anyway, I'm Krambo the Saucetor and only Level 2 at the moment, but as it's only Day 1 I'm not too worried. I also add approval for any DROD clan as well.
