Claythro Tower L1. 2N 1W (0)

Im stuck at point 1 with the roach from 3 2 steps behind me because the gate marked as 2 doesn't open. I've tried combinations of leaving some gates open and closing others, but I'm not getting anywhere.

Anybody got an idea? Thanks for your help.
