An Aumtlich's Quest : Seep Spaces : 2 South (0)

I figured out that I need to clear the gel with the mimic before hitting the power token. I don't seem to be that skilled at it because the gel is growing a lot faster than I can get the mimic to remove it. Some gentle hints would be appreciated. Not so gentle hints and even downright harsh hints would also work.
