PC Logic Games, logicgames.blogspot.com is a place where DROD has been mentioned often. JTRH was his 2005 game of the year, and he has some constructive criticism of DROD RPG.

I would give a direct link to the article, but I can't figure out how to do so using blogspot.

Here is a direct link.

As for the comments about it not being "RPG" enough, I don't know. He says there are "no fundamental character decisions to make" and "no distribution of skill points, no purchase choices." I am still working my way through the second half of the RPG, and I have been making those decisions the whole time.

Then it goes on the mention a lack of skills giving new abilities like "allow finer control of mimics and/or your pet." I would imagine both of those would be possible via scripting, but while they were not in the official hold (that I know of) many other "skills" are. I felt that the

I'm not exactly sure how you can have 'finer control' of mimics. 1:1 movement is about as fine-controlled as you can get without them simply becoming clones instead.

To be fair, the demo (i.e. the face we put forth for people to judge the game on) is much less RPGish than the second "half" of the game. But even then, as eyetanz points out in his comment on the review, the game is is only rpgISH.

though it is fine with me that we stretch the term "RPG", since Diablo is also a big stretch of the term RPG (to me). I miss me some Ultima IV :)
