I did this one the first time through. Pretty much out of necessity (or laziness because I wasn't saving as often as I should have been and didn't want to replay a large section at that time), because I had already used the item needed to get a better weapon. I did need to replay a bit of Rule 7 (after seeing what how much HP I'd need) in order to max out my HP enough to easily survive doing it.
