You could make a new file named .room, wich will include only one room. This could be easy for transfers.

When you import this, the game goes to editor and asks where you want to import the room.

The editor imports the file to a exciting room or a new room.

What do you think?

Why not just a new hold file with one room? What would be the functional difference?

It wouldn't require that there be a main level entrance for the room. That always bugs me that I have to make an extra room or put in a level entrance.

However, other than that I can think of no other use.

Shouldn't we really consider adding a prefix to all file extensions used by DROD? Like ".DRODhold", ".DRODroom" etc.?

Because if DROD RPG keeps using the same file extensions you'll have a hard time telling DROD and DROD RPG files apart, and it's not "just" a matter of upgrading to the latest version like when trying to import TCB holds into JtRH...

And, let's face it, while ".hold" is quite a unique, DROD specific file extension for a set of levels ".level" for a single one really isn't - I bet there's other games out there that already use ".level"...

(And it's not as if there was a low limit to the possible length of file extensions in this day and age like in the dark DOS ages...)

DROD RPG can use .drr for rooms and .drl for levels.

.drr and .drl are already in use as system files.

http://filext.com/file-extension/drl
http://filext.com/file-extension/drr

But the .DRODlevel and .DRODroom is a good idea.

But .DRODhold? It requires to convert all made .holds into .DRODholds and game modification.

Drod RPG hold files could be .drhold.

What do you think?

ctrl-c/v already works in the editor, why not have ctrl-c put onto the clipboard an encoded string? you'd only need minimal compression to make the string short enough to easily put into IRC or the forums.

What does it have to single room transfer FR?

You could just paste a few lines of text anywhere (in a post here, in an IM message, into a mail) then copy it back into DROD without having to mess around with files...

np: Vladislav Delay - Tarto ((No)Huume)

This could be a good idea for another FR. But am I too stupid to understand the relation between this FR and single room transfer?

Well, we're talking about copying a single room to the clipboard in a format that you can past as text into another application (which might be one that allows you to transmit said text to another person) then copy it back into DROD and get the exact same room upon pasting.

If that's not a transfer of a single room (without those pesky files) I don't know what it is...

np: Max Tundra - Number Our Days (Parallax Error Beheads You)

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. being able to highlight, copy, paste into drod is much easier than downloading file, importing file, copying room, pasting it where you want. If it was done right, the caravelboard could even generate the room image for easy reference!
