I don't suppose you could just explain it? I know the picture is probably brilliant, and a picture is worth a thousand words, and yadda yadda yadda. Maybe you'll un-jinx it if you explain.

Yeah.....unless it's really complicated, why don't you just explain it?

Personally, I believe that if it can't be explained in a short post then ...everyone knows where I'm going with this.

Well, I looked at it, and I think it's actually a pretty good idea. I don't know why you had to use a picture, though.

This would work. This would really work.

Would it play a special noise to let you know it's permanent?

To summarize for those who don't want to go digging up the picture: Orbs that affect gates permanently, so that when Beethro leaves the room and returns, the doors will still be in their changed state. If an orb opens gate A, and Beethro leaves and returns, gate A will still be open.

Now, a question: What will happen if the gate is later affected by another orb, and then Beethro leaves? Long Orb 1 opens gate A, regular orb 2 closes gate A, will it be open or closed?

Oh, and I think it's a good idea. :)

I think that if it's affected by a long lasting orb, it will stay that way every time you reenter.

regular orb 2 is a regular orb, and you know the properties of a regular orb (you do, do you?:P). So gate A will be open when you enter the room.

Should long orbs be an orange colour?

But orange is the same as error colouring in the editor for orbs.

Yeah, which is why I suggested sound.

But then you can't tell what it is until you hit.

Maybe purple orbs?

Purple is a more distinctive color. And any doors affected by the Long Term Orbs should be colored purple too, so we remember.

Would using another orb remove the long-term charge?

I guess a second l.t. orb would cancel out the effect of the first.

Its an interesting idea, but I'm not too sure if I'd like it or not. Firstly it would bring up problems with restoring games - you could end up having to restart the whole level if you make a mistake with orbs somewhere.
But one of the interesting things about drod is the way that the room restarts if you leave and reenter it..

But hey, I've had the same sort of idea myself (mainly when I was wandering thru level 13 the first time and seeing all those orbs).

Not the whole level. Just before you hit the orb.

How about a key where you can cancel the l-l orb? However, it can only be used at the start of a room.

That would work. That really would.

It couldn't be used to cheat, because it doesn't change anything while you're in the puzzle... and it COULD be used to cure insolvable rooms... as long as it reset ALL the l-l orbs in a level.

Yes, but that would get problems of its own. Perhaps only the ones that affect the room?

Anyways, how would this be done in the editor?

But deleting all the effects of long-lasting orbs would be just as likely to break the level. Maybe it can be possible, but only when you enter the room, and l-l orbs can only affects one door. How's that?

Hm.... maybe we should just say no resettage in the room, and that we should only be able to reset a level(Beethro's position and the solved rooms too).

How about this for simplicity's sake. You hit the "purple" orb and then the "purple" door disappears entirely, like a green or blue door would.
