Can't someone make another room so I can start the poll?
Or should the poll be "Do you like DiMono's room?" and if he gets more yes than no he wins?
Or should I make a room myself?
If this was a bad idea, please tell me.

Heh, I don't think it was a bad idea, it just happened to catch people at a time of laziness and apathy probably... and now has long since fallen into the oubliette of old topics... But, yes, you should make a room yourself, and now that you remind me, I'll try and make a one-room hold myself, although I haven't done much architecture yet, I could use the practice if I'm ever to design a hold worth playing... who knows... if we can convince enough people to create a single room hold, perhaps they all could be combined into a tall and very thin tower hold (or shaft) and released as an all-forum project, it would make for an interesting hold, as you'd have a taste of everyone's styles... I think the new post will help get people to notice the topic again...

For some reason, I haven't felt like touching DROD (the game, not the forum) for a few months now, since the latest Deep Hold was published. But if you like, I'll pull a room out of there for you. Just give me time to slowly...get...it...out.....

Here's a one room hold I made today. It's not great, but at least it's different from DiMono's.

Speaking of which, I managed to complete DiMono's room in 477 moves. I also had a very good game, where everything seemed to go just right and I looked destined to finish it at around 470. Then right at the end, I lost my concentration for a moment and screwed it all up on the bloody wraithwing! AAARRGHH! :~(

Wow, Mikko, I've looked at your room and I don't even want to try to do it yet. Most of it looks fine, but I can't see how I'll do the bottom right corner, given the behaviour of roaches and queens.

Just give that section a try. It's not that hard.

Nice room, Mikko, I liked it!

Quite a room! It just so happens that mimics are my favorite game element, I spent like an hour playing it. With a bit of luck, I finally got it.

I had no problem with the lower left, but I made the mistake of putting a mimic out of the way in the tar section and then leaving it till last. I was so engrossed in the other parts that I didn't notice I'd made it impossible to reach the last tar baby. Duh! Or D'oh! Great room Mikko.

I haven't had time to look at Mikko's room again yet, been busy with other stuff. Mikko, you might be able to shorten your playtime on my room by taking out the Wraithwing at your first opportunity, and not waiting until it's the last thing you have to do.

Anyway, when I feel like digging through those roaches in the lower-right corner I'll get back to it. Just answer me one thing:

DiMono, without giving anything away, I'd say the roach mothers is the easiest part of this room.

Well, I finally got around to playing Mikko's room, and my demo is only 14 minutes, with 1900 moves. I do not envy Mikko playtesting this as it was constructed, having to make sure that each addition didn't mess up anything else along the way. I could probably shave a couple hundred moves off my time, but I don't think I'll try. Good room, I enjoyed it, especially parts where I had to use one mimic while keeping others from doing anything stupid. Well done!

Here's my entry: Pilfer's Point. I spent a lot of time building and testing this, so you'd better like it. :)
I think it would definitely be a good idea to compile all the entries into a single hold after the contest and release it to the holds section.
LAST MINUTE EDIT: forgot to define an orb, oops

Zzyzx, it is'nt allowed to have separate entrance/exit rooms.
It should'nt be too hard to fix that, right?

Thought I'd raise the competition a little and enter a room myself. It's a remake of Beethro's Arcade from Dungeon1, this time with less brains, start in the middle of the room, and in the Slime tileset (I have noticed that not many use it).
Have fun!

I use it all the time, just only for above-ground levels since the pillars are... well... trees. So I'm curious, who thinks this would be an interesting challenge for Erik's monthly challenges some time?

I actually like the idea of this being more of a collaborative project than a competition. Instead of creating single rooms like this though, why don't we each a room that we've created that we are either very proud of or think is a lot of fun and then post it here? Then we can really get moving on making this group hold. Does anybody else like that idea?

I like having a bunch of rooms from different people, but it could get difficult lining up the room exits, and we'd need a LOT of people to submit rooms if we're only using one room per person. I might suggest that we can submit as many rooms as we like to that project, or entire levels if we want. However, I also think that should be something different than this thread's little "contest", as we'll end up with a hold of 20 levels and 20 rooms if we just use the rooms submitted from this contest to make that hold.

For some reason I don't really like the idea of a group hold.
You could do whatever you want with the rooms after the contest has ended though.

I'll start the poll tomorrow.

I think in fairness that we shouldn't vote for our own rooms. It could be very telling if three of the room architects all vote for the same room. Of course, there's no way to enforce this beyond the honour system...

Hmm, Beethro starts out stood on a wall, above and to the left of the red door. I didn't think it was possible to have a room where Beethro starts this way.

Actually, it's quite easy. You make the room elsewhere and decide where you want Beethro to be. Then, in what will be the real hold, you put him there, then copy the room over top of him. Voila, Beethro's in a bulkhead.
