Mike Rowe is a 17 year old high school student in Vancouver, B.C. who decided it would be fun to put Soft at the end of his name and register a Domain Name with it. Microsoft noticed this and asked him to stop, and after some escalation Microsoft served him with a court order claiming he registered the domain name in bad faith, and always intended to sell it for a profit. The funny thing is, he's running a game development site. The whole situation is pretty amusing, what do people here think about it?

I find it highly amusing and even more highly disturbing at the same time. The amusing part is, as always, seeing Microsoft's legal department going overboard. The disturbing part is that this is becoming a common trend. (i.e. the Don't Even Think About Getting Around To Thinking About Creating Anything That Has At Least As Much In Common With Our Company As A Freight Train Has In Common With A Mosquito Or We'll Sue mentality)

Then again, there's the Hey, Let's Register Everything We Can Think Of And Flog It Off To The People Who Actually Own The Name For Tremendous Profits mentality and the Well, It'd Be Okay Except You Implicitly Gave Your Approval When You Let These People Do It, So Now Your Name Is Fair Game Under Copyright Law mentality.

Someone needs to fix copyright law.

It's something to do with "sullying the good name of Microsoft" I think. And yet, Windows RG didn't cause any fuss... weird.
