It's a joke. :) And a brilliantly executed one at that (although the picture probably shouldn't have been marked Public Domain, since it's built using TCB graphics).

There's a reason NetHack doesn't actually use the Net :P

(NetHack: a roguelike. Somewhat similar to DROD in that it's turn-based and on a grid. About there is the end of the similarity :P)

You know, one could make a playable DROD MMO, even with the turn based. Just never have you see another actual player... except maybe if you want PvP or raids done similarly to WoW. Multiplayer dungeon raids can be handled fine the way KoL does Hobopolis. (Areas in an otherwise mostly-single-player game with deeper interaction between different player's game-instances than normal (as in, more than just PvP, chat, and trading))

Yes. But there is MAngband, a multiplayer version of Angband (another rougelike). I don't know how it works though.
