I went digging online recently, and discovered something almost unexpected:

The songs Evanescence hasn't released on a CD are better than most songs other bands do release on their CDs. Origin was never meant to be a releasable CD, it was a demo for record companies to listen to. There are two EPs that predate Origin that also have really good music on them.

Why does it seem like record companies are perfectly willing to put out CDs that are mostly crap, when there are artists who are critical enough of themselves that they only want the best of their best being released, that spend four years unsigned (The Evanescence EP was created in 1999)?
