But there are many other non-adventure games there, like AGS yahtzee.

Heh at the BFG: Megawatt laser? Make that megawhat laser... :P I only got as far as the first BFG.
I was on my last life, then I got a new level, I got the BFG intro screen, clicked, waited 2-5 seconds, then bang, game over. It happened pretty fast.

Anyway, nice game... My top score is 3366. Looking back, it's not amazing, but not bad, and it beats the preset scores at least. :)
I prefer to play with WASD and the mouse to aim.
And Q/W weren't working for me. I probably picked the wrong controls though, mehehe... :?
[edit]
Right! So what do neumann(Or however you spell it...) do?
I got 6406 points, and up to the point where it says Good luck! instead of introducing enemies.
[/edit]
[edit2]
I got 4140 points this time... losing two lives to BFGs was really bad. Only got as far as introducing Neumann.
[/edit2]
And yep, this is my first post in a while.

Heh.

"You can now use ADWS to move around, in addition to the cursor arrows; rotation keys have moved to ZX, as well as [ ]"

Right! So what do neumann(Or however you spell it...) do?
As you've probably noticed by now, they spawn other enemies. They also obnoxiously dodge your shots to some extent.

Actually, I hadn't noticed except two small clues:
1: The introduction screen says "Spawns" or something for its attack.
2: A BFG appeared on one at one point. Needless to say, painful.

Yeah, I noticed ZX works, but I prefer WASD and the mouse. Nice to know [ ] works too though. Edit: Yeah, of course QW overlaps with WASD.

Yep, I hate BFGs... I don't like the Kudzu (They get in the way when you're fighting enemies and if you only nearly kill them they grow back.) Annoying, but BFGs are... yeah, totally horrible. Just stay RIGHT behind them, or bang.

Edit: Xaos are really annoying - too fast, even if they are predictable.

Oh, and Radiant - Sorry if I'm repeating a question that someone else asked, but - what's your max score so far?

The highest Single-Player score is currently held by me at 11800.
The Highest Multi-Player score is held by me and my brother at 11874. :P
If you mean Radiant, then I think it's something like 9000.

Been there. Many times. I can sympathize.
And from Enemies in the Readme:

When you start a level, the Vulture looks like a wonk and acts like a wonk. When you shoot one, it loses its wonk camouflage and turns into a yellow triangle which circles you, sometimes retreating to the edge of the screen; regardless of its position, it will shoot at you.

Oh yes. Neumann should fall squarely in the category of "terminate with extreme prejudice". Sometimes they spawn a kudzu to defend themselves, too.

Edit: Xaos are really annoying - too fast, even if they are predictable.
They get better if you have spreadfire. Also, I find it relatively easy to dodge them while I deal with more pressing matters. YMMV.

Q and W? That's not right...
Oops. I'll fix that.

No problem at all. My score is, as they say, over nine thousaaaand!!! It has since been beaten by a few people on the forums, who can repeatably hit the five digits.

Argh. This is fun, but hard!

Once I got the hang of it, I got up to 8,297... I want to get higher though. :D

What upgrades do you guys usually get? I tend to go for speed first, then shrink, then weapons, and then shield and warp.

I usually get Retro, Spread, Chain, and Pierce first, in that order; if I don't get any powerups from kills by the end of Brick, the order becomes Chain, Retro, Spread, and Pierce. Then I get the others based on immediate need and availability.

I always get Chain first because it's easy and useful.
Then I go Retro, Spread, and then the first speed upgrade.
Usually, if I collect 2 crosses between any two upgrades, I'll gladly get a Shrink instead.

I've never lived long enough to see Shield or the third speed upgrade in action, but I know that Hyper, Pierce and Laser are generally unhelpful so I stay away from those.

Statis is awesome! It freezes everything except you and your bullets, and I'm not 100% sure, but I think you're invincible while doing it.

Actually, Pierce is good because you can kill enemies with less shots. Shield is great because it blocks enemy shots (and I think lasers) to the front half of your ship.

I tend to avoid the speed upgrades since my reaction time isn't what I'd like it to be. I have, however, gotten Stasis once (though I think it was actually called Freeze), and it was awesome.

For some odd reason, every time I get Shrink, all enemy shots (even non-aimed ones) seem to change course and head directly into my ship's path. This is probably just my imagination, due to trying to track two to three dozen movements at once.

Yeah, it's just your imagination. I did see the illusion once because of where I was looking, but sure enough, none of the bullets came anywhere near me.

I tried going for Shrink and Shield first this time, and it didn't work out. It takes a long time to get the Sheild, and believe me, Shrink is not enough to save you from Kaos. Even Magnuses (Magni?) are a problem when you have no extra offense.

Kaos are bad news and definitely take both Chain and Turbo to live through. I would like to get Shield before Neumann, but I guess if I can't, then I can't.

My current favorite order is

Chain - Retro - Pierce - Turbo - Shrink - Spread - Shield

Were we to find an optimal order, we would definitely need to factor in when enemies appear and what is good against who so that we always have what we need to get through the first levels unharmed.

As far as Power-up choices go, it depends how I'm feeling.
usually I take Chain - Pierce - Retro - Spread - Shrink - Shield - Turbo/1-up.

Other times I take Retro - Spread - Chain - Pierce - etc...

Some time I'll get around to completing that Strategy Guide so it can go on the WebSite. Hopefully it should help outline the Pros and Cons of the Different Styles for you guys.

I'm still really Pissed off about the apparent high-score bug.
Every time I get a score 11000+ it wont load the next level.
And it just got worse: I finally got a score over 12000 and the game crashes! unfortunately I didn't notice whether it put out an error message(I was too pissed off to pay attention), or if it did, what it said on it.
another thing I've noticed is that sometimes you seem to get dragged in one direction(No Magnus on-screen) until you tap that direction key.

also, I was thinking that maybe when your in keyboard only mode(when you press Z/X), that you could have a laser sight or something.
it's not essential, obviously, but it would help even out a few disadvantages received with keyboard only.
;)

This game could be perfect, all it needs is a few more EVIL Polygons, Bosses and proper Two-Player capabilities(Two ships, one controlled by mouse and one controlled by keyboard).
Pity this game is made with AGS, 'cos I'm not sure if it could handle all that.

Radiant, if You ever turn this into a full fledged Game, the World will be COMPLETE!!!

I've never used the AGS, but I'm very sure that there's no reason the AGS shouldn't be able to handle all that.

As AGS is designed to create less action-full adventure games, I'm pretty sure it could have a bit of trouble, Especially as it's not too fast at drawing raw pixels.

Seriously though, all the games he's made are virtually bug-free and the graphics are the best I've seen in a 2d sprite based game.

Thanks!

In other news, I finally made it through the 10k barrier, setting my personal VV record at 11222 points. My personal vote for Most Annoying Enemy goes to the Magnus, because I'm rather adept at dodging pretty much anything, unless something throws me off track.

I think a two-player version sounds like a great idea, I'll put some thought into that.

I hate each of the enemies in their own unique way. Like how the BFG shoots a near-instant beam of death at you. At least you were merciful and made them make a chime when they're about to shoot. :)

I usually play without sound, because however cool the music is, it gets sorta annoying. Actually, that reminds Me, could you make it possible to turn the music/sound off?

You should be able to do that with the winsetup utility that comes with the game.

Vector Vendetta, Vengeance Version.
*Eight more enemies, four more weapons
*Three difficulty levels

*Boss monster! Can you defeat the UAO?

Download here. This is considered a beta for the next few weeks, just in case anyone finds a major bug.

WOOOHOOO!
THE BEST GAME JUST GOT BETTER!

DAMNIT!
With so many worth-while distractions it will soon become impossible to work on something.

Either way, I defenantly looking forward to seeing what you've come up with.

Start counting the days until I beat it.
Then I'll make the strat-guide. :thumbsup

Ok, I've found the first bug.
When I got upto the UAO(only on easy, I still cant get much more than halfway on hard!), I had a nuke.
having got upto it a few times previously, I thought that I might give it a try and see if it had any affect.
It did, perhaps an overly powerful effect.
However, when I'd polished off the last few vectors that spawned when the UAO died, the level hung.

A few suggestions would be:

Make the default high-scores for the standard game higher, at least for hard anyway.

Make the Nuke less effective against the UAO than it currently is, perhaps making it do the same thing as a laser against it.

Make the Laser a permanent kill against a Schro.

That's all I can think of for the moment, but I'm sure I'll be back with more.

One last thing: The fourth difficulty level, Does it exist?
Or do you just need to fulfil some requirement first, like completing the game on hard?

Found some bugs.
-When I try to change the difficulty setting, either I can't do it, or the settings scroll so fast I can't read them, so I'm basically stuck playing on Easy.
-Sometimes there's one more enemy than usual when starting a level.
-Also when starting a level, sometimes I get an enemy that isn't introduced until later levels. I started with a Kudzu on Brick level, and a Xaos on Wonk 2.0, just to name some recent examples.
-No matter how long I take to complete a level, I have yet to see the crosshair chase after me.

And as with the previous update, I swear the game is slightly faster.

The same problem here.
I have some thoughts/suggestions about the game:
-Could you please make an option to change the current er, "crosshair" to an average crosshair, something of this kind? I personally am unable to aim even slightly well with the current crosshair, without looking directly at it.
-I also encountered problem with noticing and discerning the enemy bullets from mine (just a couple of minutes ago I was playing happily, when suddenly, seemingly without a reason, I lost a life). Perhaps making them twice as big could help?
Other than these two, I am really enjoying this game and find it both interesting and addicting - Good Work!
