Ok, because I know how frustrated I get when I can't figure out something like this - anyone who wants a really big hint, PM me and I'll send it over.

I don't want to post one in the thread, even secreted, because it will remain there for posterity and I don't want to ruin this for players joining in the future.

The room with the goblins is sadly enough the easiest save for the entrance, IMO. If anyone wants any hints please say so.

This is a great hold and everything, and the trick to solve it is the most creative I've yet seen in DROD. Still, it pains me to see all of these people who can't figure it out. I think the creator should post the Big Hint before all of those frustrated with the hold stop playing it.

Here's my Big Hint. Let me know if I should edit this out.

*posts* Wow. I repeat, this is what DROD is meant to be. I finally finished it and WOW this hold is great. I only wish I could make something similar. And it's not a conspiracy. At least not a lying "I did it" conspiracy.

This has definitely one of my favorite DROD tricks. Big kudos to the author. :thumbsup

There are a couple rooms that could use checkpoints for the final hold release. I don't think I need to enumerate them.

I finally discovered the trick. That done, the hold was completed in a matter of minutes. I'm not too excited about this hold, although I must admit that it's the most original I've seen in a while. Also, I don't get how the intro quote relates to the trick. Maybe that's why I don't really like the hold.

Anyway, comments about the secreted hints in this thread (somewhat spoilery about the trick):

Also, here's another Really Big Hint. I think this would've helped me, so maybe others who read this can see what I failed to.

Proving the principle under which the secret tags were created, I haven't highlighted anything that I think will give away the trick. See, they're not useless after all :D

I figured out the trick, thanks largely to the level description. I think the hint in the level description is perfect, in combination with the title of the hold. It doesn't make it obvious, but if you sit and think about it for a minute you start getting ideas that take you in the right direction.

these rooms are all almost solvable
i can do the goblins
from either the top or bottom
(top is much harder)
but i end up 1 move or spawn short in every other room ARRGH

7S and 9S are kicking my behind. I can't get in to the chamber with 5 wraithwings alive in 7S, and I can't figure out how to move in to the serpent area without the ability to move diagonally in 9S.

I have no idea what to do in 7S (or, more specifically, I know what to do, I have no idea how - if anyone has an explicit spoiler, I'd love to hear it).

But I can help with 9S - the hints that follow increase in explicitness -

Well I'm completely stumped. No idea what this so called 'trick' is unless its something easy like going backwards or something.. but that wouldn't apply to some of the above hints.
In the meantime.. I'm still stuck on 9S. I've read the three hints about, but theres a 7 square gap, one too big.. grr.

Alright, I seriously don't get this hold and haven't had that amazing revelation that some of you speak of. Still, I understand some subtleties of the hold which I hope aren't the said "secrets," cause then people would get mad at me for blabbing them like I'm about to. I could put the whole thing in secret... nah.
So I note that in 8S all the orbs perform toggle functions on the doors, so there are 2^8 combinations of hitting or not hitting an orb, and one of them gets you out. 2^8 is not that big of a number once you get a system down (just counting in binary), so I tested all the combos myself as well as wrote a C++ program to do it quicker, and in both cases I get no answer. Of course a typo in either case would cause m y rant to sound aweful foolish, but I've checked as much as my tired eyes will let me, and I'm raising my hand on the conspiracy thing.
