OK, I got it.

I seem to be having trouble with restoring a game I saved. How do I do it?

Anyways, I killed the supergoblin, got my money, talked to Mobley and Branthro, and got the hammer and the knife sharpener. What do I do after that?

What command do you use to get the money?

Ack! Secret tags! Secret tags!

Saving and restoring games is pretty self-explanatory. Just click on the "Adventure" menu and click "Save Game". If you haven't yet saved a game, you'll be prompted for a name and location. If you have, it will save over the one you saved before, unless you click "Save Game As". To load your game, click the "Adventure" menu and click "Open Saved Game", then just locate the savegame file and open it. The saved game is just a file, nothing more; you can move it about, copy it, rename it, or delete it, and nothing adverse will happen.

The following is in secret tags, like your text above should be:

I tried that, and I told it to save, but when I went back, there was nothing there. It got saved as a .tas file somehow, instead of a .taf.

Red - .taf is the format of a game file. tas is the extension for a saved game. To load it, start the game, then click File -> Open Game - NOT open adventure. Alternatively you can type save and load in the input box as in ye olde Infocom games.

@Joker:
Was that just a "cop-out", or were you genuinely having trouble with the command? If so, what else do you think you should be able to type to get the result you need? It's this type of thing that worries me the most.

Your avatar is broken, BTW. ;)
EDIT: And now it's not. Strange things, these forums.

And I was referring to Red Hawk when I was freaking about the secret tags. Oh well, I suppose it's not so secret anyway since most of you have already gotten there.

My work list for this weekend is coming shortly. I will have amalgamated all the suggestions so far and then I will implement them to form a new, hopefully final demo version. Then work on the full game can commence, with perhaps another demo between now and the final product.

Matt... you did hear my request to use that storage space, right?

New version of the demo, and hopefully the last.

Content additions:
-Blocked off initial access to the castle and the Low Spaces, to prevent "overwhelming expanse of rooms" syndrome. Those darn plot boulders! :D

Bug fixes:
-Fixed a coloration bug in "more help" (forgot to close a tag)
-Made it more obvious that you need to talk to Dugan to get your payment
-Made the supergoblin-killing task more obvious through Bombus's dialogue
-Some item descriptions fixed so they will display properly when you drop the item somewhere
-Neatened up a few of the "TALK" tasks (purely internal)

TBD:
-Hint system to give you in-game hints. I haven't figured out how to include a system that costs money to use, since you don't have money right from the start and purchasing a hint then would result in negative money. I might go ahead and do it anyway; just call it "being in debt". I'm also unsure on exactly how to do it, since this could easily become a game of "guess the command".

Not TBD:
-Putting items on or inside other, static items. The reason for this is because when you do so, the placed object effectively becomes invisible. You can still pick it back up, but it's not listed in the room description unless you "LOOK" at it. Until I find a way to get around this (unlikely), it won't be there.

I've got the Runner downloads back online, so there's no need for that DROD.net webspace any more. If they stop working (and they shouldn't), notify me immediately.

I'm not dead! I'm just sleeping! :P

Seriously, folks, work is being done on BTA. It's just coming along a bit slower than I'd like it to, mainly because after doing piles of schoolwork every day I don't feel much like doing more work. I know you'll all gasp in shock when I say it will go much faster over the summer (but it's so far away!), but I seriously think it's going to take that long if not longer. Writing a text adventure is like writing a book... only harder.

I'm surprised nobody commented on the new demo version. I guess that could mean that there are no bugs, but I know better than that. Also, I don't think anybody's found the secret yet, but it's really not too exciting.

Hey, Beethro's Text Adventure got a nice mini-review in a round-up of adventure games on DIYGames:

The king needs your services once again. Apparently, Conan and other fantasy heroes were of no help, so he sent for you, the heroest hero of them all. Thus starts a very good adventure, which features plenty of puzzles, people to talk to and humor to keep you occupied for a while. As far as ADRIFT games go, this one is way above the average.

It's a little funny to see this as news on this site. Sokko, did you recently release a new version or something?

-Erik
