Not seeing the trick here.

Assumption

If my assumption is correct, I can't see how to accomplish it.

You are correct.

You have to carve a matching path sort of..

Well apparently it is that second part that has me flummoxed. Once I've released the babies, I can't go below a certain point and I haven't found another way to accomplish the second part.

Funny how easy that is once you understand it. I had ideas along those lines but they just didn't quite get there. Thanks. Always enjoy the challenges that your puzzles present so thanks also for continuing to put them out there.

I've been stuck in this room . . . coming back every now and then for weeks. Time to beg for assistance -

Without fail, all my tries at this room end up more or less like the demo I've attached. (I can get the tar baby to cross the plate correctly if Beethro goes back south, but then the roach can't be killed.) How do I make the roach reverse its run, or am I over-interpreting previous hints?

Thanks -

This was one of the layouts I tried. Here too the tar baby kept going along the original path.

I know I can't run south. I recognize that if I do so the room cannot be completed. (I don't know why I uploaded that particular demo, my apologies.) I also understand that

Attached is a more appropriate demo, showing what happens when I open the tar corridor when both babies are 15 moves from their pressure plates. Nothing good, that's for sure . . . what am I doing wrong?

Thanks -

Well, for one you've forgotten to actually attach that demo... ;)

But I've found that Larry's configuration above is actually harder to use than need be since you have to wiggle Beethro back and forth a few times to make the left baby idle for a few turns.

I'll attach my configuration, which works fine without doing that, even if it's not as optimal, turn-wise.

oops, I'm so embarrassed. I used the method in Briareos picture. I just ran any demo to get the screen pic I posted which is not the intended solution. Whoops.

{Sigh} So I did. Fortunately, your suggested layout worked very well. Thanks!
