- “isn’t it time we put the Christmas decorations away?” (and all those unwrapped presents).

Well, after 288 Hours of Christmas Funtime, taking that Pattern Puzzle and Checking it Twice, watching Dungeon Gameshow while waiting for Guaranteed Overnight Delivery of Chrissword and Sudoku (despite Snow Delays), helping the Mystery Roach to Name that Tune and the Snowmen to figure out Snowduko, while all the time hoping for something Candy Coded from Under the Tree, maybe it is time now to take down the baubles, wind up the tinsel and put away the tree until next Christmas.

That one particular present though - the Biggest Box Under the Tree - that’s much too special, too important and just downright delicious to wrap up in second-hand brown paper and hide in a cardboard box up in the loft . So we’ve agreed to keep it where it is. Those of you who have found it can look at it from time to time if you wish and those of you who haven’t (and goodness me, are you missing a treat!) will still be able to find it if you want to. (and if you do want to the original instructions can be found in THIS thread and the discussion/help thread is HERE.)

Over the next few days the Missioneer and his assistants will be posting the answers to the various puzzles with any explanations that might be necessary.

I really enjoyed solving the puzzles in this set - I had a great time figuring out what to do, the answers made sense, and I often has those "ah ha!" moments.

However, I admit defeat to Snowmen and Snow Delays - I just couldn't solve those no matter how many times I came back to them.

Good job, all of you - you made some clever puzzles and I believe this was a great example of an orderly disruption from the Department of Benevolent Influence

(does this mean we'll be making the holds highscoreable soon?)

Chaco's Christmas Funtime

This hold came about mostly because I asked to be a secret agent for the Department of Benevolent Influence around Christmas-time. Stephen asked me to make a short Christmas-themed puzzle hold for this event they'd be putting on the next day. As I'm sure all of you know, it's *very* hard to put together anything in a day, and DROD holds are no exception. I only managed to make two puzzles.

However, I'm glad I was able to participate and give some of you guys a break from the harder puzzles

Attached is a victory demo for Christmas Rooms Once South Once East.

Attached is a victory demo for Christmas Rooms Once South Once East - a room which I believe was of appropriate difficulty - tricky but not too hard if you handle it correctly.

I needed help on Checking it twice, haven't solved Chrissword, Snowdoku or Candy-coded, never even tried Snowmen because I hadn't solved Name that tune until a few minutes ago, and I haven't even seen Mystery roach and Snow delays. Off to take a look at those now -- onward and downward!

×Solved about half of it. One question though: 2 horizontal is obviously (I thought) "Epiphany", but that contradicts 9 horizontal + 2 vertical, which is obviously (I thought) "Boxing day". Which means, of course, that at least one of the two is less obvious than I thought.

Sudoku

First things first, the numbers in the yellow boxes are easily found using either the sudoku solver in your head or one of the many you can find on google. This gives us the following numbers...

Now what to do with these? Well those bold lines were there for a reason...

Snowdoku

Firstly I am going to deny all responsibility for the nastiness of the sudoku grid involved in this puzzle! This little gem came from the twisted mind of Calamarain. I did manage to work a devious puzzle into his grid though.
Firstly, those tricky yellow boxes...

Which after checking the conveniently placed key gives us...

This should have set the anagram detectors in your head ringing to give the final answer...

Mystery Roach

Unfortunately my puzzle creating brain isn't quite as devious as some of the other team members and I think it shows. Not much too this one, and the clues are all there...


Hope everyone had fun. If you haven't made it all the way through it really is worth the bit of time needed to complete the final puzzle to get your present.
