I don't know if this has been mentioned before, because I don't frequent this area too often, but if you were to click on a smiley while the page is still loading (click on the smiley when you first see it), the rest will not be seen, after you click. It stops loading them.

This is what seems like a feature of many browsers; clicking on ANYTHING clickable will halt all page activity until you refresh. You can even see this yourself on download pages with banner ads; click the download link and watch the banner freeze in place.
