Briar that is next to a pit grows more slowly.
This suggests two important things that you need to do:
1) Wait for the briar on the left to grow so that it reaches the pits. This will give you enough time to travel down the side without being killed by an expansion.
2) Time your hitting of the fuse so that you are well-prepared to break for the other side. This may take some experimentation -- I don't think you want to let the two roots connect, but that may be survivable...
