I challenge everyone to try and see exactly how many sword turns are required (minimum amount) in each room of Dugan's Dungeon. Post here every time you complete a level!

I know this is hard. Just humour me and try it.

If demos recorded stats on number of sword swings/steps/turns waiting in place, then it might be worth setting challenges/par times based on this. Who's going to keep track of the number of sword swings though, except in cases where there's already a challenge for completing a room with 0 sword swings?

It might also be interesting to set challenges based on the minimum number of overall steps, irrespective of the number of sword swings.

Practically, I'd only attempt such challenges if I were given an actual room number and a target to aim for (and the game recorded the numbers automatically) but it may be interesting to attempt playing while restricting the movement style as much as possible.

What are the fewest swordswings anyone can get for Level 14:1N1E?

I don't think anyone will take the time to count that one - any room which includes a lot of hack and slash will really not be fun to count swings in (since you need to swing back and forth a lot and if you're going slow enough to count without mistakes it will get REALLY boring).

This sort of thing is only fun in rooms where the swing number can be very low.

I challenge people to figure out all the rooms that can be done without turning your sword.

That is already a challenge I believe, or at least there are several room challenges which state "do this room without turning your sword". I think someone found that level 1 can be done in its entirety with your sword in one direction.

Game on,

I very much doubt level 1 can be done with the sword in only 1 direction. It would have to be turned a few time to strike orbs unless I am mistaken.

You have to turn several times in level 1, but I think the first five rooms can be done without.

Okay, it was Hawk who posted the thing about not turning the sword, and he said that it was only the first 6 rooms or something, so I have a faulty memory. Never mind.

Ok, so here's a concrete challange - beat level 1 using only 17 sword rotations or less (I managed 17, out of which 6 were used after clearing the last room in order to hit orbs on my way to the stairs).

In the secret text, I list the breakdown of how many rotations I got per room. Some of these can be done with less rotations on thier own, but I was constrained by the sword rotation provided by the previous room:

All right, here's level 2!

Beat this level in 84 sword-turns or less.

[These are the turns per room in the order in which they are played (of course there is no choosing which way to start the room - they are started in the ending position of the previous room)]

Gah, old thread resurrection! At least you had something worth saying to say. So now required sword turns is down a little on the level?

Not from Terrafire's strategy.
Click here to view the secret text

Thus there is no change in the number of sword turns required.

You can reduce the sword turns used to 15.

Just because a reply to an old thread is on your list of annoyances, as you have repeatedly shared with us, doesn't mean there can be no valid reason to reply to one or that everyone else here finds old threads per se annoying. As is apparent, this thread hasn't been exhaused yet.

That was basically the point of my post: it bugs me that old threads are getting dug up, but this one was for a good reason, so let's continue the conversation. I wasn't being sarcastic, so I'm sort of confused why you made this post.

And here's a demo of it :) Whole thing plays in four and a half minutes. I'd have stuck this in the whole level demos challenge too, but somehow someone already got level 1 in there...

Well, if this one is better, you could still post it.

Remember in the level descriptions, the guy who wrote it said his personal record was 2:58? Who wrote the descriptions anyways?

I know this is an old thread, but recently I started doing this minimum sword turning challenge on my own. I have managed to cut the number of sword swings for level 2 of KDD down to 36. I conquered the rooms in the order below:

## Room:swing:end face
-- Enter: 0 : SE
01 1E : 3 : N
02 1S1E : 0 : N
03 1N : 1 : NW
04 2N : 1 : N
05 2N1W : 2 : W
06 3N : 0 : w
07 1S2E : 7 : SE
08 2E : 5 : N
09 3E : 3 : SW
10 1S3E : 2 : NW
11 2S3E : 1 : N
12 2S2E : 0 : N
13 2S1E : 8 : W
14 2S : 3 : SW
15 1S : 0 : SW

I attached a zip file with 15 demos for the above list.
