Next time you need to post a screenshot, please use F11 in-game. This will generate a .jpg file that is much smaller and easier to download.
The trick to removing square 1 in your picture is understanding the differences between tar (blue), mud (red), and gel (green). Notice that the mother behind the yellow door is the same color as square 1.

If there is a mud mother in the room, all mud blobs grow every 30 turns.
If there is a gel mother in the room, only gel connected to the mother grows every 30 turns.
