Here are the reasons cuz i do:
1.Cant see some monsters,when in "normal" view.
2.Cant redifine controls.They are stupid.
3.Have to wait over 2 mins,til i can run the game for real.
4.It uses AE hold and not for free.
5.Cant import\export
6.Cant build levels.

I agree. Not all games are meant to be transfered to 3D, because the graphics are nothing compared to gameplay. I mean, as long as you can tell things apart and graphics do not hurt to look at, why upgrade it if doesn't add anything? The only reason to upgrade DROD to a 3D game is to exploit all three dimensions in puzzle solving (that is, multiple levels of height in the same room, monsters moving in space, additional sword orientations like up/down, etc.).

Isn't "hate" a bit much?

It didn't prevent JtRH or TCB from being released, nobody forces you to play or even download it and it's so obscure that most people on this forum wouldn't even have heard about it if you hadn't posted this...

So why bother?

Sometimes the good old topdown view is a lot better than modern frist/third person or isometric views. I also tried DROD 3D and it's not 20% as good as the original one. The most annoying aspect is the lack of an editor and the fact that it isn't free.

I have seen games use polygons for 2D gameplay, and honestly there's some advantages - polygons are really flexible, for instance, and make animation and lighting effects a whole lot easier.

That said, DROD 3D does none of this.

I believe that there is potential for a 3D DROD.

I do not believe that the 3D DROD that exists comes anywhere near meeting that potential.

Sorry for posting (again). But you know, I thought I read somewhere that you could buy the special level editor. I guess not. Although, here is one of the worst things I don't like about it:

1) The roaches are tiny and the Queen Roaches look like a couple of thorns.

2) I thought Beethro looked kinda like the animated picture. Sooo, why does he look slightly like an ugly Chinese guy?

This happens, when game creators make games to gain income by using popular stuff as basis (all movie-based games are made like this) and not to satisfy a player. They produce half-finished programs, which don't have half of the features they must have, and the other half is poorly implemented.

That wouldn't be a particularly good way to describe DROD 3D - the development team did like the game, it's just they couldn't pull it all together in the end. There is a whole story behind it, but I don't know all of it, like what was up with the art direction.

DROD is very far from being "popular stuff", and when DROD 3D was created it was even less applicable. Their intentions were probably ok, but the 3D view is a major design flaw, so it came out completely unplayable.

I'm just glad we finally pushed it from the first place at Google search for "drod" and down to the middle of the page.
