Beethro's services are enlisted by an unusual and innovative architect (includes excerpts from his treatise "On Building an Impenetrable Dungeon").

Thanks to jbluestein, Tim, Chaco, BoyBlue, Jason, Pilchard VIII for testing and bug finding.

Just in time for the weekend!

I truly enjoyed these highly polished and, at times, perplexing puzzles from Jacob. This hold features a unique story, a unique concept, more than a few unique lynchpin puzzles, and a unique goblin. Highly recommended. :D

You know that monster count? Like, there's a hundred and ninety one monsters in this hold?

A hundred and ninety of them are wubbas and fegundi. There is only one "monstrous" monster in this hold.

I'm a big fan of Jacob's holds, and this is just a great idea. A hold almost entirely composed of monsterless puzzles that manages to be engaging and difficult.

I've been looking forward to the public release of this hold for a long time...

I give it 5.5 brains and a 10 rating for fun.

Josh

Thanks also to CuriousShyRabbit and Syntax, who tested in the HA stage of things.

However, I've just realised we all missed a solution for Briar Patch 2E (which was possibly my favourite room of the whole hold). Unintended solutions make me cry.

I have a fix, but too late.

I share your feelings about unintended soltuions and feel guilty I didn't have enough time to test the hold all the way through. Excellent hold!

I'll vote when I complete it :)

Mastered. And seeing I was one of the first to do that I thought I'd write some comments.

Overall, I'm a big fan of Jacob's holds and I really loved this one too. This is certainly a tough competitor for Terrakept Resonant for the title of the best usermade TCB hold. There are some really clever and (at least for me) previously unseen uses for the new elements. More specific comments secreted:

I have to say that so far, I am very impressed. On the briar level already, and it seems that Jacob has got the difficulty level just right. Where a room is hard, but not too hard, and there's logic behind it. The only other one I've seen this good is Simon's Dungeon.

Hopefully I'll finish this, and give a more thorough review!

It was immensely satisfying to master this hold. As calamarain mentioned, the difficulty is just right. Nothing too simplistic, but after some struggle you'll still get it. In general, the secret rooms are very well hidden and they are fun to locate. Specifics:

Outer Defense:
1N3E is an awesome creative construction of one-way passages. 2E took me a long time to figure out how to maneuver from one entrance to the next. 1W is annoying. I hate orb puzzles. Yeah I know it can be back-traced, and you put an escape orb in the beginning, but I still hate orb puzzles...

Repository:
All nice rooms, especially 1N1E. I like bombs going off. 1E took some time, but it was fun to play with.

Flooded Repo:
Many straight less difficult and beautiful little rooms. 1N took awhile until I managed to take the speed potion. 1N1E and 2N2E are great mimic+gel puzzles where the finding where to stab first is hard, and the rest falls apart.

Briar Patch:
This is a fantastic level. I enjoyed all of the secret rooms, especially
Click here to view the secret text
1S1E is easy in the sense that any wrong move results in Beethro's [literally] immediate death. 1S2E is a fun path-finding puzzle. 4E gave me major headaches to keep everybody alive. Likewise for 2E.

Halls of Variation:
Finding a sequence of popping blobs is not really my type. So I enjoy this a little less. Nevertheless I won't complain, I can't expect everything to be exactly as I like it. The 5 non-blob rooms are very fun though.

Inner Defense:
Talk about room reuse. Entering the room 10+ times for 10+ different puzzles.

Cheap Tricks:
Favourite cheap tricks: 1S and 1N. 1N is evil. What's the deal with 4W? I got stuck! Oh well, it's post-master, so I can let Beethro rot in the level.

Overall very enjoyable. 10 fun and 7 difficult.
