I can't fathom this one at all. I can see the sequence to open the doors, but the first one is surrounded by a black wall. I killed the blob of mud, but the black walls didn't drop. Do I need to do the eyes as well to drop the wall? I can't see how.

What am I missing here?

Yes, you need to eliminate any mud on the screen, including the mud grown by the mud mother (i.e. the eyes)

I don't have my demo with me, but it's definitely possible to open one door after the other and work your way to the exit of the room...

The eyes aren't enveloped in mud. They're just eyes, and they're on a door whose control is inaccessible.

A tiny hint to give me a start would be very welcome. I've no idea what to do.

I know I'll kick myself when I find out how.

Uh oh... something just dawned on me... :?

Which version of DROD are you using, if I may ask?

There are some differences between versions whether the eyes themselves are counted as being tar/mud/gel or not, and if I remember correctly this room depends on them not counting as mud for it to work... :(

I'll re-check this room once I get home in an hour to see whether it's still solveable.

Which version of JtRH? There's a version number in the top right corner of the main menu, which says "2.0.16" for me, and I can confirm that using this version hitting the blob of mud on turn 5 does indeed drop the black doors for me.

If you're not using version 2.0.16 you can find an appropriate patch here.

EDIT: Oh, wait a minute - if you wait past turn 30 before stabbing the mud blob next to where you start some extra mud will appear below the tar mother's eyes, rendering the room unsolveable. So make sure you stab the mud and hit the orb right away.

I'm a version behind, which I'll attend to, but the problem was the spawn, which I hadn't noticed. I was too busy killing babies.
