The Secret of the Slayer : Spider Den : 1 North (0)

I could use some help. I can kill the snake, and use the eye to step on the center trigger for the yellow doors. but if I trap the spiders between the yello and red gates, I can't kill them because I can't get back after dropping the west trap door. I am obviously missing somthing fairly simple but can't see it. Any help would be appreciated.

Why can't you get back after dropping that trapdoor? Looks to me like you can.
