thats somthing!

why do you spend so much time making games you wont even get any money out of?
I assume its a hobby, becuase thats what id like to do(exept my programming skills are still pretty basic, so i got a long way to go)

and also, what are you working on now? or are you taking some well earned time off?

oh, yeah. I knew that...

I should have checked the post date on the leylines beta testing post.

and ive changed my mind, it is a good game, but I still think ure wrong about the time it takes to complete a game.
or maybe it's just 'cos im bad at strategies.

I like the goblins, and how they dont have any cities to start with, it's quite quaint, I think... :smile

I discovered a few minor glitches in 1.2.

Occasionally, I have found that the game will initiate Chapter 5 before you've actually entered the door. I'm not really sure what causes this, and I'm not really sure I could duplicate it. I think it has something to do with finding the door before obtaining the means to open it, but I'm not sure.

One's more of a dialog inconsistency.

The third minor glitch I have noted occurs when you seek to take back your girdle. If you walk toward the castle, and walk back, you'll enter the screen from the cliff again.

That's intentional. It moves the plot along if for whatever reason the player is unable to enter Thierna na Oge.

Just downloaded today, and noticed a peculiar bug.
If as soon as you're arrested, BEFORE touching any objects in the room, you try to use the vase on itself (just click on the vase two times) the game will crash with an error: You can't use the bloody dagger on itself.
Testing revealed that when trying to use the vase on itself it will say "You can't use the XXX on itself" and the XXX is the last object you've interacted with. (a door, a shelf, a table...) :-O
Apparently the game crashes because the dagger is not available anymore.
This crash doesn't actually do anything bad to gameplay (because it would be hard to stumbple upon it *accidently*) but it sure is strange. :-O
Right now I'm stuck after throwing the vase on the guard below. I have nothing in my inventory (except the notepad of course) and so have no means of climbing down... :weep

You don't need anything to climb down, just click on the wall.

Yeah, that's a minor bug, thanks for noticing.

Since there haven't been any major bugs recently, I don't think there'll be an 1.3 any time soon, though.

I'm new here so I hope I'm not repeating someone else's post. I did read through this topic and didn't find anything else answering my question.

I've played all the way to the end of the game (enjoying it very much) and I'm at the final showdown scene, where I have managed to figure out what to do so...

Click here to view the secret text

... then the screen goes black. The music crescendos then dies away and after that nothing happens. Essentially the game freezes and I have to alt/ctrl/del to get back to my desktop.

Has anyone else encountered this? Or does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be the problem. I would really like to be able to finish the game as I've spent a lot of time on it.

Thanks for any assistance.

Ok, since posting this I've potentially figured out that the problem is with the ?video? sequence that plays here. But that still doesn't tell me how to solve it. With other AGS games that I'm having similar issues with I've had to move or delete the video files to get the game to skip over them; however, I can't find any video file in the program folder.

Anyone out there have any ideas?

As you inferred, the game is attempting to play a movie at that point. You should be able to resolve this by (1) getting the proper codexes and so forth; (2) pressing ESCape while the movie starts, which should skip it; (3) if you're running full-screen, try windowed, and vice versa; or (4) deleting the sound.vox file from your ATOTK folder.

That only happens if your download somehow got interrupted, and you have an incomplete installer file. In essence, the installer is looking for more data that isn't present, and assumes it is on the non-existent disk two. You need to download again; if your connection is erratic, I recommend a download manager such as GetRight.

Perhaps you could tell me which codecs are the right ones. I have tried both ffdshow and k lite full pack. Neither of these has seemed to do the trick. I have also tried the ESC key, and switching between windowed and full screen. Off to delete the sound.vox file now...

Ok, deleting the file worked, but I'm still curious as to what I missed. I detest not having things run the way they're supposed to, especially when I can't figure out why. Oh well, just part of life I guess.

Thanks for the reply

Help!!!!!

I am trying to get the monk to translate the book for me. I have asked the monk to do something for me. I have then pointed at the appropriate shelf which he tells me he can translate if I just ask. I have tried putting the book by his inventory on him. " Now is not the time for reading" I have tried putting the book on the shelf no go. I am currently in chapter 4 and working on the side task for the apprentice. WHAT am I doing wrong I am so confused?

Thanks

Hi!

I've just finished playing ATOTK - great job, guys, although it's a bit difficult sometimes, at least for me :) - and I was wondering, is there no scene about Geraint changing back to human, or I've just missed something? And is there any way that he won't end up as a bird when fighting the sorcerer? (Sorry if this is a stupid question, but by the end I grew really fond of this guy, he's become one of the two characters I like the best in the game, and I would really like to know that "he's okay"! ;) )
And do I need to find out who the murderer was only for that part when the Queen of the Fair Folk tells me if I'm right or not, or I need that information later as well? (Just want to know if I loose any points with that only once then, or later on too.)
Thanks for both your answer and the game once again!

Hm... I believe that in the best possible ending Geraint is restored by a certain person, but I may be confabulating.

You only miss points once for not figuring out the murder.

By the way, what's your name, Pooka? ;)

Thanks. I'm afraid I don't really write easy games :)

No, I'm afraid there isn't. Perhaps if we do a sequel at some point.

And do I need to find out who the murderer was only for that part when the Queen of the Fair Folk tells me if I'm right or not,
No, just then.

Maeldun says that maybe Taliesin can help Geraint, but since he didn't recognize but ate me when I was a rabbit and went to him for help, I do not really trust the bard's abilities when it comes to these kinds of problems. :P :D Otherwise I cannot recall anything else said about Geraint after that, though I've reached the best ending. Missed something again?

Radiant wrote:

Are you planning to? Would be looking forward to it!
And may I have some more "perhaps-not-so-wise-but-I-would-like-to-know" questions?
For example why is Ruadh mad when I ask him about faeries? I undertstand that he is one - was actually suspicious that he is from the first moment I saw his face -, but according to the Queen, he might have gotten lost in the human world on his own, he was not necessarily swapped with Blossom by the faeries. Or was he? Does he even know at all what he is? Cause that would be a reason to be angry with them, but otherwise I don't see why he dislikes talking about that so much. Did I misunderstand (or missed, again) something?
Or why is Pooka always picking on Blossom, when, as he says, she was nicer to him before? Is it in the game just for making Blossom feel (even more) miserable, or Pooka was younger back then but now reached her "teens" and the behaviour coming along with that age, or is it just because? :)
Hope you don't mind me asking these and you don't find them to be very silly questions. But I'm really curious, and don't want to miss the chance of asking, since the one who can answer them, the author himself is present in this forum. :)
Thanx!

No, you didn't miss anything. Whether Taliesin, or Nimwe, or the apprentice sorceress would be able to help Geraint is an open question.

Are you planning to? Would be looking forward to it!
At the moment, no. In the future, perhaps.

And may I have some more "perhaps-not-so-wise-but-I-would-like-to-know" questions?
Certainly.

For example why is Ruadh mad when I ask him about faeries?
Mainly because he leads a harsh life and has no time for silly childish stories of merriment. Yes, he is Blossom's counterpart (time moves differently in Theylinn and Thierna na Oge), but he's not aware of his heritage (since he was too young at the time of the swap to remember it).

Or why is Pooka always picking on Blossom, when, as he says, she was nicer to him before?
"Before" in this case being several years ago. The reason is that babies and young children are ooooh soooo cute! And playful, and they laugh at everything. And when they grow up a bit, they suddenly become... boring. And human. And, well, not fun.

Pooka is a lot older than her "teens" but is effectively ageless so that doesn't count. Puberty doesn't come into it - but as Maeldun has experienced, faeries can be downright cruel in their jokes.
