I would like to be able to filter holds into arbitrarily assigned groups. Actually that's too general a statement -- what I want for myself is a way to look at only the entries in a current architecture contest, without having other holds in the list.

I can think of three ways to assign the holds to groups:

1, a tag assigned by the architect (disadvantage: you're stuck with the architect's choice; e.g. this could cover my specific Contest application but doesn't extend to other things players may want to do. Also, it requires that all architects who enter a contest learn to spell its name.)

2, a tag assigned by the player (disadvantage: either requires writing data into holds files by other architects, or makes things more complex by keeping more information about holds outside the hold files)

3, filter by the directory in the filesystem where the user has saved the hold file (I like this one, but disadvantage: limited to exactly one tag, can't assign holds to a group from within DROD, and may interfere with the ways some people organise their holds already)

I woulde love to be able to make my own tags for my folders. To be able to search by the author of the hold, marking out my favorites, and isolating the holds that I had beaten; that would be a wonderful addition to locating holds.

Edit: Um is this not identical to the other thread going on right now.

The "player-created lists" one? If I understand that suggestion correctly, it's similar but not identical.

I want to tag entire hold files, typically before playing, and for my own use. The player-created lists (as I understand the request) are meant for holds-or-levels-or-rooms, tagged for their content (i.e. after playing) and shared with other players -- in fact I think most commenters on the other suggestion picture it as a caravelnet-only function.

Looking at the list of holds I downloaded from the Cheap Tricks contest (people posted a lot), I am craving this option even more.

It would be nice if I could separate real holds from stuff like that.

Hm, I also have several holds named "x Billion Move Man" with various numbers replacing the "x".

Pre-post edit: I just had a (stupid) temporary resolution; if we can't make our own filters, we can still kind of separate holds with separate player files. It's a pseudo-folder system.

EDIT: Nevermind the suggestion. Huh, I thought that holds had to be separately imported into each player file. It's only hold progress that is separate. Darn!
