Goblins are wily critters. Occasionally, one of them will feel a bit more mischevious than the rest, and will decide to impersonate a mimic in order to confuse beethro even more. Unfortunately, it's not that great a plan - Beethro can always tell them apart from real mimics, mainly because they don't hide in potion bottles.

The mimic mimic is a goblin disguised as a mimic. As long as it is more than 3 squares away from Beethro, it acts like a mimic as well. But if it gets too close to Beethro, it sheds its disguise and becomes a goblin.

This mimic mimic would obviously be in the room when entered, correct?

I really don't see the value this would add to the game. If you need a mimic, put a mimic potion. If you want a goblin, make a goblin.

Maybe this is from the Red Hawk's suggestion of having pre-placed mimics.

The reason I didn't like that was because of the question of sword orientation. The reasons I don't like this include that, and the transformation thing.

Well, it was a silly idea, I admit - I don't really expect much support for it. But this is partially comes from the idea of pre-places mimics (which, by the way, I also suggested a couple of months a go) - which I think is a good idea, sword placement issues notwithstanding, and also from the thought that, if placed in a room where you also need to create regular mimics, you'd have the task of keeping track of which is which.

I don't understand why the pre-placed mimic can't have its sword pointing in the same direction as Beethro's no matter what. If you need the sword to be in a certain direction, leave the room and come in again. Very few rooms don't let you retreat as soon as you enter.

Anyway, back on topic: if the mimic changes into a goblin and then it gets stuck and Beethro moves more than three squares away, will it turn back into a mimic? There could be some interesting puzzles with this. I think I kind of like pre-placed mimics...you could have some neat rooms where you have to solve it in different ways depending on from where you enter the room. I know there was something else I wanted to bring up, but I can't remember right now...

Game on,
