So, y'know that room in TCB where there's a scroll saying today is the "Dance of the Sugarplum Roaches", & when you go in the theater & return out, it then says "Theater is closed"? How does one make such things happen in the editor?
Can one change rooms completely with it?

the scroll contains a variable.

"The East Side Theater is $TheaterState$."

(I'm inventing/guessing a variable name).

some character in the room does a "Set var TheaterState = Open" (with "set var" command and "assign text" argument, the text goes in the "amount" field) when Beethro first enters the room (and then an "End" keeps the character from setting it to "Open" more than once).

some character in the theater room itself sets that same var to Closed.

---

why, yes, you can make scrolls and speech which contain a money amount, or arbitrary points for doing challenges, and even use those variables to, say, open doors via inaccessible orbs or something. will make the next MetDROiD a lot easier to program :)

Oh. Durrrrr.
For what it's worth, I also didn't realize that the $variable$ trick worked in scrolls as well as speech.

I wouldn't be too awed. if you look in the "Character Script Commands" section of the docs (hit F1. scroll to bottom, hit "Level Editor". click "Script commands" from the start), then under number 15 "Set var" it says "Using vars in text: In variable text assignments, Speech, Questions, level entrance texts, and scroll text, type "$varName$" to insert the current value..."

so, basically, I just read the, uh, docs.

Hey, I'd read the docs too if I thought they were as accurate and up-to-date as I wanted them to be! (mutter mutter stalwarts gel mutter)
