Here's a pretty generic challenge: Complete any level in Dugan's Dungeon without dying. Attach a demo, starting at the entrance to the level, and finishing at the stairs. Let's see if we can get all 25 levels!

To get it started, I'm attaching a demo for Level 10.

I've put links to all the demos in this message. levelthirteen was kind enough to give me his source code for grabbing the time and move counts for each demo. It was in java, which I don't do, so I added the relevant bits into my existing PHP parsing code. I've added the times and move/room counts below just for fun.

To completely record a level playthough, you cannot die, or use a checkpoint (you can step on them, just not 'r'estore to them) or the demo will stop recording.

Here's one I made earlier, for level 8. It's not terribly efficient. I was trying to play fast (not well though) as well as complete the level, and I missed a bunch of tricks.

Yes, only if you manually start it. If you have it automatically record demos then it only saves a demo within a room.

In order to make a whole level demo you need to restore to the level start hit f5 and play to the stairs without dying or restarting or the demo will stop recording.

Am currently recording level 23. It appears that the demo begins the last time I enter the room I started the demo in.

I.e. I start in the entrance. But to get from room to room, you have to go back through the entrance. When I replay the demo, it starts not at the beginning, but the last time I entered the entrace room.

This looks like a bug to me.

When recording a demo like this there should be an entry for each time you go through a room. You need to choose the first one when you export.

Ah, thanks for the knowledge. I did not understand.
Given that, here is a full demo for level 23.

It is tempting to record a demo for levels 24 and 25, but completing level 25 is all that stands between the smitemasters and all the rest of the roach squashers. Any opinions?

I have replaced the original demo upload with a new version which starts at the entrace as per the rules of the challenge.

I wouldn't go about advertising it. I think demos take away from the fun of beating a game, like walkthroughs do.

I don't think there's too much to worry about, as people who are asking for help on rooms probably won't be looking for challenges on it. :P

Here's Level 25.

I strongly recommend NOT looking at any of these demos before you solve the level for yourself. The real fun of DROD is how frigging hard the challenges can be at times and how cool it feels when you figure them out. Peeking at the solution alleviates the frustration, but denies you the satisfaction that comes from solving it yourself.

I peeked once at the hints. That was to get Level Seven Twice North Once West, but not before trying many many times with a similar, but mis-directed strategy.

Here's level 9. It's really ugly, as I had to leave a couple rooms and come back to them, but the challenge specs never said anything about being the most efficient route, so I present this for your perusal.

Something I noticed: In the entrance, after I started recording, I stepped on a waypoint. There are two versions of the demo, one from the waypoint and one not. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a bug?

It does look awfully small, doesn't it... I'll remove the demo, and replace it with the other one when I get home tomorrow. Maybe it really wants that checkpoint demo...
