If you enjoyed the music from the original Webfoot DROD, and can read music and play a musical instrument, then I think you might like this.

I have taken L.K.Aasbrenn's music for Level 8 and turned part of it into a giant DROD level for three of the instruments, two of the tune parts, and the chords, complete with staves, notes, accidentals, time and key signatures and clefs. It's sort of like immortalising it into a dungeon level, and you can read it from the map, although the natural signs can be tricky to pick out so looking at the room properly for those will help.

One or two things though...

The engraving rules I used are a little inconsistent, so you may see a few notes that are too far apart or not in the correct position on the staves by a square or two, and I may correct this in the future, although if you do spot any great, big, glaring errors, then I'll correct them immediately.

One last thing. I asked Lars if it was alright for me to do this, and he said it was, so I don't think I'm infringing any copyrights. However, if I am wrong, tell me, and I will remove the hold and destroy it.

Apart from that...have fun with it!

Just spotted two nasty errors.

2S 12E - The third dotted crochet (D flat) should not have a dot on it.

3S 6E - The natural sign is inverted.

I have corrected these errors and the updated version can be found above.

Cool!

Just one thing - did you ask Lars for the score, or did you transscribe by ear? Because if so, then I am impressed at your outstanding musical ability. But even if you copied from the score, it's very well done.

And why set at 103 bpm? It's a bizarre number - 100, or even 102 I can understand. I know that's not your choice, but even so...

Anyway, it's unique, I'll grant you. Interestingly enough, I found it impossible to read on screen and used the mimimap in the editor. I can't read 3D green notes on a yellow stave on a purple background, it makes my head ache. :)

I have not the ability to hear music by ear and then transcribe it - my musical ability/auditory memory/pitch tuning is not very good, so I copied from a score. However, I have my own music-writing program, Sibelius 2, so I used it to extract the score, then I refined it and put it into a DROD level.

I know. I was in a bit of a rush, so I just put down the number Sibelius gave me without thinking. I may change it later, but not yet.

I really liked the music, so I just thought it would be nice to put it into DROD as written music to be enjoyed in a visual form, and to also allow people to play it on their instruments if they want to (I do it a lot). :)

Now, if you've got the Webfoot music playing in 1.6, is the theme set right so it plays while you're playing it?

Matt

Make sure the music for "Game 6" is set to lev6awe.mid or one of its counterparts, depending on which you think sounds best (I think the AWE versions are better though).

It should work.

Does anyone have any specific requests for any of the pieces of the original DROD music or any sections/parts of the music?

If you do, then just tell me what you would like to have transcribed and I'll go and do it.

I've just noticed - the exit stairs lead you to DD level 9, making the hold unconquerable. Is that intentional?

I thought setting stairs to go to other holds has been abolished for the time being. How can the stairs go to Dugan's Dungeon? I set the stair destination to "End hold" anyway, so it shouldn't do this. Is it a bug?

Oops, I forgot to post that myself. I saw it too a long time ago and I really meant to mention it, I don't know how I forgot. I was really wondering how you did it too, now I see it was unintentional! Even in playtest mode it takes you to Dugan's. Perhaps when you copy a room with stairs in it from another hold it keeps some kind of ID of which hold it belongs to on it? If this ends up being the case, someone should find out what happens when you copy stairs from another hold and then delete the original hold, how this affects DROD.

Game on,

Game on,

I've just tested it. If you delete the hold from which you copied the stairs, DROD cannot find it anymore and quits automatically once it tries to load the hold. It doesn't appear to corrupt data, though. I'll post a bug report for this.

I forgot that the other-hold stairs feature had been abolished, and just assumed you'd forgotten to change the stair destination.

Well, glad to have helped. :D
