I have sixteen variables in my hold, and the sixteenth in the list turns into (i forget how to write it) two rectangles. see pic:

If I change it back to what it was before, whenever I leave and go to the menu and back, it changes back to the rectangles. The first time it happened, I deleted the variable, and once I realized what it was, I had to manualy change everything back again. :~( I need help!

EDIT: This also (i think) caused my computer to freeze, and I just had to restart.

When I re-opened DROD, the rectangles were gone, along with that variable. A blank space at the top appeared. See Pic.

Now THAT is odd... I'm currently using 34 different variables, and I've never had any problems with them. Are you sure you are correctly following the variable-naming rules? (ie- must begin with a letter, must only contain {a-z, A-Z, _})

I'm running TCB on WinXP MCE... You?

You can have numbers, too.

I looked at my drod.err and found this:

Might that be the problem? If so, how do I find which character?

What an ironic way for DROD to say something about an infinite loop ;).

Yes, it's a problem. Odds are you forgot a Wait 0 somewhere - DROD only complains if it executes more commands then it has in one turn.

What is the name you're trying to give this variable?

Gandalf the Grey. That was my name.
I am Gandalf the White.

I was trying "weapon". But I also tried "pon" for the same effect. I'll go recheck stuff to see if I have missed a Wait 0 or something like that.

I tested some more, and found that if the variable is one letter long, it only makes one rectangle. Also, it only changes from my name to a rectangle when I go out of the room editor and into the level editor, so it might be something to do with saving levels.

EDIT: This bug is very hard to explain. Maybe I should email the hold to you?

I got your hold and did find a bug in the code -- it's possible to rename an existing variable (by double-clicking) to an invalid name. Maybe that's how that name got corrupted in the first place, and I think whatever happened shouldn't happen any more.

But besides that, I tried renaming the variable with no name to "weapon" and it worked just fine. Leaving the editor or DROD and coming back in still has the name I gave it. So I'm not sure what issues you're having there.
