I'm not an idiot-- I promise! But I don't see what is the matter here. I am led up to the statue training room, but can't get anything to happen up there, and so can't get back down and continue on my way. What am I missing?

once you've gone past the statue training room, you can open every green statue you see, you just have to get close to it.

×Also,perhaps it's a good idea check for broken walls.

But what am I missing in the statue training room? I can't get past the blue mimic in the corner, to reach the desk; nor can I trigger the purple statue.

Sure you can. Just move diagonally between mimic and sword.
