It requires efficiency -- you're spawning 27 roaches per cycle, so you can stay ahead of the crowd.
What worked for me was (at the beginning of a given spawn cycle) first clearing out the big horde in the bottom section then turning my sword north and moving east while smiting. If you time this properly you can hit the bottom queen just before the start of the next spawn cycle. Once you get one queen down it gets a lot easier.
