I had quite a bit of trouble with this room as well, here are some tips that helped me.

×Move to the lower right, let the snakes congregate in the upper right. DO NOT TRY TO GET A SNAKE STUCK IN THE NORTH RIGHT AWAY! You actually need to play around to make sure that doesn't happen. This can be done by jumping back and forth across the bottom two portals.

×I was able to get a snake stuck in the south first, and then moved clockwise from there. By playing around you should be able to get a snake stuck in the South just by moving back an forth in the south.

×I was able to get the second snake stuck in the west, again, simply by moving back and forth on the west side of the screen, and then finally got the third snake stuck in the north.

×If you can get the first 3 snakes stuck, for the last snake you only need the head to be at any of the four spots indicated when you hit the orb.
