Survival isn't a problem. I can get down to one or two snakes. But getting rid of the final snakes is beyond me. Any hints very gratefully received! - John

Well, I haven't played this room, but the only opportunity to kill a snake with is the southern exit.

You need to get the snake to block itself so the only way it can go is south, into that dead end.

Thanks. I suspected that was the only solution, unless there's a way to make two snakes destroy each other simultaneously.

All my efforts at getting the final snake to go down that hole have been unsuccessful. Hopefully somebody might have some suggestions for techniques to try....?

Well, if the last snake is long enough you could do something like
..vSS<.........
.B>Sv^SSS......
XXXX.XXXXXXXXXX

(or at least something similar)

Thanks, but I tried that. The problem is the wretched snake insists on turning north either one square too early or one square too late.

Here's what worked for me in the editor in such a situation...

When the snake is currently preferring vertical movement, it is moving southwards and you step north of it's head it'll go east next.

Oh yeah, trying this out in the editor might make things a bit easier - just make a new hold, level and room, delete the correct wall tile, put a snake into the room and have at it. Using a snake clock doesn't hurt, either.

The longer the final snake is, the easier it is. It does need to be at least 4 squares long.

What you should do is get the snake onto the column east of the entrance square, and make sure it is chasing you north.

When you get to the snakes first v-pref move:
Step west. The snake should move north next to you.
Step west. You are on the same row as the snake, so it should move west towards you.
Step south. The snake should move south next to you.
Step north. The snake wants to go north but can't. It tries N, E but those squares are blocked by its own body (which is why you need 4 length). So it keeps heading S
Step NE. Now you are behind the snake so it will keep heading south.
Wait where you are and it will keep heading south and into the dead end.

This is roughly what you want to see.

I started a snake-training hold at some point. I should finish it.

Many thanks, I'll try that.

Update: Success at last! Thanks a million!
