Maybe it's just me, but it seems that whatever I do, I end up getting killed by the tar babies. Any hints?

I think what I did is...

The best advice, really, is to take your time and make sure you're in a safe spot when the tar grows...remember you can hit Enter to see what the count is at (possibly only in Architect's edition, I don't remember).

Game on,

The strategy comes from playing and dying a lot. This level is a huge increase in difficulty (as you are noticing)...you're being put through a "trial by fire" and need to learn how to deal with the tar mothers.

If you're playing in DROD 2.0 (JtRH), then there will be a spawn clock on the left side of the screen. When it hits 30, the tar mother spawns, so be in a safe place before then! If you're using DROD 1.6 (Architect's Edition) then you can press Enter to see what the spawn countdown is at (it counts down from 30 in AE). When it is getting close to a spawn, get somewhere safe! Eventually you will learn how tar grows and you won't need to run as far to find a safe place.

Game on,

Yes, kind of. You can go to this thread and download the AE version of KDD to import into JtRH (even the demo version). If you later buy JtRH but not CaravelNet, you won't notice the difference. But if you buy CaravelNet or the stand-alone KDD2.0, then you won't be able to import the data between KDD and KDD2.0. So you won't be able to get any high scores with the AE version if you get CaravelNet later. But you will have the benefit of Undo and the spawn clock. But you won't have all the different room styles of AE. So it's up to you. If you do import that hold into the JtRH demo, then remember you need to export your player from AE and import it into the demo for your progress to carry over.

Game on,
