The "search\new topic" button in the H&S board is pretty descriptive if you know what it does, but it's probably not all that informative to people who don't know what it does, as evidenced by the occasional "I can't post in H&S" posts.

Maybe the text should be reworded into somethhing that people will want to try pressing it, such "Get help" or the like.

Makes sense. I quite agree. Search/new topic is pretty low level, but "Get help for a room" is much closer to what the person actually wants.

"Search for Rooms" or "Search Rooms".

It would also be nice if we could move the room image onto a different page and only have that page come up if you can see the room.

I don't think we should use the word "search" - it implies that you can't create a new topic. I think that we need something totally neutral from the actual process.

I like's Mike full "get help with room" - that's totally goal-oriented and should be clear as the right thing to click on for everyone.

I actually prefer a simple 'Need Help!'

You could also expand the announcement to be a little more descriptive too.

Why not call it "Click here!!!11!" and get it over with?

(Also: maybe moving it to the left hand side would make it harder to miss when looking at the forum?)

Because "click here!" also isn't very informative; it tells people what to do, but not when to do it or why.

One thing that bugs me about the Hint search is that after selecting a room and submitting, if I hit back, I have to select the hold again. A cookie that remembers which hold you searched for last would be nice.

Edit : The new button looks great, but maybe the alt text should be changed to match.

One other small change that might help. Anyone completely new to the game arriving at the forum looking for help might be tempted to click Help below the banner at the top of the page.
Perhaps something like "Looking for help with a room? Why not look over here" and a link to the Hints board on the help page would be useful.

Oh, yeah, totally--that "Help" link is entirely misleading as to what it offers help for. (Also, could that page not load 198 different images? Perhaps the smilies could be moved to another page or put behind a secret-style tag...)
