I can persuade the goblin to kill the snake in the first pen, but then I'm unable to get it out in order to tackle the next one. I spend all day cahsing it round, but can't get it to the right corner. Any hints please?

Obviously you know that Beethro must go inside the chamber once the snake is killed? There's an orb you have to hit... So, after Beethro is in, can you find him a safe and stable position so that the goblin is standing in SE corner of the chamber? Then you can threaten the goblin so that it has to retreat back to the trapdoor with force arrow...

I know that, it's what I've been doing all day. (When not taking work breaks, that is). But standing in that corner, I can get the goblin in every other square except the one I want, no matter what I do. Is there a right place to have the goblin before going in to the pen?

Well... The point is: if you're standing in the SW corner facing N, then the goblin can only feel safe in the east column inside the chamber. Then, once the goblin reach the east column, he'll try to get closer to Beethro by moving to the same row as Beethro. Thus, eventually reaching SE corner and staying there.

Pausing is particularly useful with regards to Goblins and Wraithwings.
