No, that's JavaScript, which is something entirely different.
Java is a language, framework and browser-plugin that's made by the people over at Sun, that'll fill rectangular portions of a web page with something, exactly like Macromedia Flash does.
JavaScript is the part of the browser that's responsible to make everything else inside the same pages, but outside of those plug-inned areas move (modulo some annoying partially-transparend flash ads that cover the whole page). It's also what powers the buttons above this very text entry field I'm writing in to do something.
If you happened to disable "
Active Scripting"
in your advanced IE settings (which is Microsofts dain bramaged name for JavaScript [and some other, even worse ideas like VBScript] since JavaScript was an invention of Netscape, can't have that in IE) that could probably be the cause...
Of course, I'd very much suggest using a different browser (i.e. anything but IE), but that's up to you...
