I think my Java is turned off...and I don't know how it happened. Not only that, I don't know how to turn it back on, and would like to. Can anybody assist?

I'm using IE (I know, I know), Windows XP (I know!) and...I think it's been off for about a week...or so.

Hey, same here!

1) Okay, first go to the top menu where 'File - Edit - View - Favorites - Tools - Help' are.
2) Click on 'tools'.
3) Click on 'Internet Options' at the bottom of 'tools'
4) Click on the 'Security Tab' next to the 'General Tab' near the top.
5) Near the bottom, you will see a big (ish) box near the bottom that is titled 'Security Level for this Zone'.
6) Click on 'Custom Level...' under custom.
7) Scroll down a bit and you'll see some Java options. There should be one that will toggle it on.
8) Hope I helped!

If that doesn't work, or if it is vague, I can reword it or see if there's any other way to do it. :)

Keep posting,

Can't think of any now, but you might have a firewall or pop up blocker that is cancelling out Java...

Yeah, could be a firewall, but its strange that it happened suddenly for no reason.
When you say 'turned off', what exactly do you mean? Java applets just show that 'failed loading' sign? If so, you can open up the java console (by right clicking I think, or it can be in the taskbar somewhere), which has some sort of error message that may be useful.

Actually, I think it might not be Java at all--I just used it fine. I just can't see the #1 History, and sometimes have trouble viewing YouTube, while my FlashPlayer is up to date.

So...maybe it's not Java? But that's what YouTube says it is.

So...confuzzed...

No, that's JavaScript, which is something entirely different.

Java is a language, framework and browser-plugin that's made by the people over at Sun, that'll fill rectangular portions of a web page with something, exactly like Macromedia Flash does.

JavaScript is the part of the browser that's responsible to make everything else inside the same pages, but outside of those plug-inned areas move (modulo some annoying partially-transparend flash ads that cover the whole page). It's also what powers the buttons above this very text entry field I'm writing in to do something.

If you happened to disable "Active Scripting" in your advanced IE settings (which is Microsofts dain bramaged name for JavaScript [and some other, even worse ideas like VBScript] since JavaScript was an invention of Netscape, can't have that in IE) that could probably be the cause...

Of course, I'd very much suggest using a different browser (i.e. anything but IE), but that's up to you... ;)

That sounds like my problem...but how do I change it? I don't see anything about active scripting, and the only things about scripting (Disable script debugging, for IE and for other) don't effect the problem.

I'm looking in internet options--is it elsewhere?

It's not under advanced settings. Follow UrAvgAzn's instructions - near the bottom you should find "active scripting".

Agh... that obviously was a brain fart on my side.

Try the "Security" tab, click the "Internet" icon and either click on "Custom Level" and fuzz around there or just click on "Default Level" - that should probably fix it.

Active scripting is, and was, enabled. The Javascript still isn't working.

I don't think it's Javascript, as this forum is full of those. Try to click on the bar, or mod down/up a post. If any of those works, then your Javascript should be working correctly.

I think it's time you put a screenshot here of what you think is wrong. For example a #1 Highscore (and tell us which hold/level that is).

By the way, which version of Explorer are you using?

Lemme see, from the second #1 Highscores screenshot I can conclude your javascript is working. According to google "error on page" means that there is some javascript errors on that page. (Note that I am using mozilla, and it doesn't display #1 highscores properly either. But I have no idea why yet.)

As for youTube, I'm not too sure, as I don't have Flash installed, so I always get that message anyway. But I don't think it's Javascript.

Edit: What I mean is: for the #1 Highscores, ask Schik about it.
And for YouTube, Install Flash again.

Hey, what do you know - I get the same, for example here.

If I click on the warning triangle icon in the status bar, I get this:

Line: 276
Char: 6
Error: Unknown runtime error
Code: 0
URL: http://forum.caravelgames.com/highscores.php?

So no, it's not just you - it does work in Firefox, however. Schik?

(Further proof that IE is in dire need of an update. I doubt IE7 is gonna fix it, though...)
