Well, what exactly is the problem you're running into? If you're hitting the orb from the SE, then you should be at least temporarily safe. You ought to be able to start waking up eyes one at a time, or just head straight SE and start clearing out the eyes while they're sleeping. I don't remember exactly how I did this room, but I think that's what I'd do:

Stand SE of orb to strike. (Unless I've missed something, no eyes will be awakened by this). Turn sword to face SE and move SE to kill the two pairs of eyes on the bottom right wall. You should have plenty of time to rotate and deal with anyone you wake up as you move around.
