When leaving a newly-conquered room by stairs, one doesn't seem to get the "Nth Place" message. I had only vaguely noticed until just now; I've been playing MeckMeck's "Confusing Hold", in which nearly every room is exited via stairs, and I've discovered that I never get the message. (But I have definitely gotten nth-place scores.)

I've noticed this also.

I try not to put stairs on a scoreable room any more because of that and also it is usually nice to let the player reenter the room to check out the high scores and demos.

I'm pretty sure this is intentional, even if it isn't the ideal situation. If demos weren't being recorded at all, or scores weren't being uploaded when leaving a room via stairs, then that would definitely be a bug.

In the hold I'm working on, I have a few rooms in a row that simulate a tower, with stairs going between each room. It's only a small part of the hold, and you can easily take the stairs back (and there are checkpoints by each staircase) so hopefully it won't be too annoying to people. Well, besides the level ending text that will show up each time...

Game on,

I don't see why this has to be the case, though. Why not have the message appear in the entrance room to the next level? There may be a reason, but if there is it's not obvious to me.

I guess it just seems more like a feature request than a bug to me.

Could be; hard to say. It seems like a bug to me--that is, the game behaved in an unexpected manner that wasn't really consistent with other behavior.

sometimes the code is working perfectly as designed, but the design is buggy. though that's just semantics (but sometimes thinking of "weird features" as "design bugs" is a good cognitive tool for allocating resources to a project)

Oh, and don't forget it never appears if you were lower than 25th. Seems obvious, but you never know.

Also, sometimes if you manage to do it wrong (and with sporadic laptop internet connections, I've managed to do that a lot), you can end up not uploading demos while in game, then leave the game, then return. All the Nth place messages happen at once, leaving you with a bunch of overlaid numbers that you can't make heads nor tails nor digits out of.

Note that it also doesn't seem to appear if you are higher than 25th but tied with someone in the top 25. It happened to me in the Entrance of Simplicity in particular, where more than 25 players already have an optimal demo; when I recorded my own optimal demo, I should have been a tied first place, but the message didn't appear.

I'm not quite positive about that behaviour yet, since it's the first time I have been in that kind of situation, and it could have been something else (a flaky connection, in particular).

But neither of these was the case here. "Confusing Hold" is a maze of rooms on a single level connected by stairs; so you occasionally return to rooms you've been to before. And when I returned to, e.g., 1S2W, I was startled to learn that I'd gotten a first-place score: definitely in the top 25, and it had definitely uploaded without a problem.

This is just an oversight. I think I've fixed this in 2.0.15 so exit room rankings can be shown during the stair-exit sequence.
