What makes you think that you need 20 tiles around the switches? You only have to step on 1 tile directly next to the switches to place a box onto any given switch and get back out of the lava area. Then you just back out diagonally, and only one tile from the inner ring is dropped. It's the tiles in the next ring out that you need 20 of, because in that ring you really do have to step on one tile on the way in and one tile on the way out for each box. That ring has 22 tiles, so everything works out nicely.
