Well, if I did, they stole it from the ZX Spectrum
Though I doubt it's actually as weird as the spectrums way of doing it... 256X192 resolution.. So each horizontal line would take 32 bytes.
The order in memory was first line (32 bytes) then jump down 8 lines, and do that line.. Ditto for 8 lines, then back to the top, and do the second line.. Carry on for 8 lines, then back to top for 3rd line etc.
Eventually, you'd have the first third of the screen drawn. Then complete for the second third, and then the final third, then finally the 768 byte colour map... MAD!
