Here's my "
foolproof"
method of solving this. It's not the fastest, but it gets the job done, and is kind of easy to explain.

×First, go to position 1 on this image:
(for those without CaravelNet, it's the square directly SE of that 2-square "
pudge"
in the upper left tar mother section). Let the tar grow once...then you'll have a 3-square tall "
pudge"
growing out of that tar section. Break that "
pudge"
(now I'm really regretting naming it that) and kill the tar babies. Kill that tar mother by going in directly from the right-hand side, and then back out--perhaps you can do more, but I'm helping you solve it, not get a high score. Go wait near the other tar mother but not so close that you disrupt the tar when it grows. After the tar grows, kill the mother from the left-hand side by going in straight through, and come out the other end. You should have two long sets of tar that is 3 squares tall...which is clearly possible to clean up. It turns out that all the tar blobs can be reduced to this exact same configuration of 3-square thick sections, as long as you bisect it through the middle in the correct direction. You can get to the screen in the attachment by this method, which is definitely solveable.

×Note that it is actually possible to break the first 3x2 blob and kill the tar babies and still get to position 1, but it's very close, so only do it if you really feel like it.
Game on,
