I was able to keep the construct from getting any further than the edge of the trapdoors while making the lower path. Pushed it to the top row when making the upper path.

My solution ended up being fairly exact in terms of timing on the final run - I killed the construct on Turn 30 and ended up not having any turns to spare.

Note that the north path opens up exactly five turns after the construct wakes up.
