Performance hit in Build 42 (0)
I was ripping MP3s at the same time as I was playing DROD. Yeah, I know, I shouldn't be surprised, but this was really bad. I used to do this when I was solving Dugan's for the first time, and the worst that would happen was a little slowness in DROD and the MP3 ripping wasn't as fast. Now, though, the sound in DROD stuttered like crazy (sword swings, mimic potion placement, bumping into walls, etc.), and the MP3 ripping basically halted until I brought that program back into focus. I was playing in windowed mode, like I always have, Windows XP Home laptop, 512 MB RAM. The room had brains, roach queens, serpents, and tar mothers, so there was a lot going on. I also had Microsoft Works open, and my MP3 folder as well. But those last two are always open when I rip MP3s, so this is still much worse than it used to be. I know there have been other performance problems with DROD:AE, so I just thought I would add this one to the list. Note that I often have DROD open with my browser, a graphing program, WinAMP, and a word processing program, and nothing happens at all. Also, one of the MP3 files I was ripping at the time might have been corrupted, but when I re-did it the distortion was still there, so it could have been normal (live CD, possibly bad recording showing up in compression). Anyway, just a little FYI.
Game on,
