I had installed build 42, imported my build 34 .player, and had played with it a bit. I was just messing with Dugan, and I believe I'd imported a few holds (just a few) and created that level 8 demo as per the demo bugs thread (so nothing much) I'd also tentatively started playing through Dugan again, to get working demos for all the pre-build38 broken rooms (plus I'm getting a kick out of completing rooms efficiently at the moment) I don't think I'd done anything with the editor with this build - certainly not anything important enough to remember. All fairly innocuous.

Just now, when starting this instance of DROD, I'm prompted to import a new player again. Some corruption going on there. I just quit straight back out and WinRARed up the .dats

I had left DROD running in the background while I was doing a bunch of other stuff, but didn't see any problems when exiting - just when I started again. And I'm kicking myself for not having set up my batch file to make backup dats. Any other info (hardware, software running) on request, if it's necessary.

This time it's the player file that's corrupted. It's displaying the same symptoms in the binary data that we saw before in the corrupted text.dat files.

Question to everyone that's had their .dat files corrupted: do you remember being able to get two instances of DROD running at the same time?

I think I may have tried to do that at least once, actually...but I don't think it worked, or caused any corruption. For example, when my Build 40 text.dat was corrupted, I tried to open two instances of DROD so I could see what the text should by while I exported my player. But it wouldn't let me, and I haven't had any corruption since.

I'm pretty sure I didn't, but my taskbar does get crowded... I have double clicked on the DROD link, and had the already running task brought to the foreground with this build.
