Is there anything I can do here to stand a chance without getting told 'L2ComboClock, noob'? This is on account of most of them are a great deal more functional than aesthetic, and I am SELFISH AND SHORTSIGHTED.

So?

Make an aesthetically pleasing serpent clock?
Hit enter and work out the serpent direction from the movecount?
Count in your head? H345V2345H2345 etc
Think of others more and wear glasses?

In short, I think the answer to your question is 'no'

Actually, you can just work out the serpents' preference from the default clock, it's just easier with a specialised one.

The original one counted down, right?

So:
1-27 => H
26-22 => V
21-17 => H
16-12 => V
11-7 => H
6-2 => V

Or maybe it counted up? In which case:

ends in 9-3 => H
ends in 4-8 => V

This is correct, and this is what I did. This is my least favorite room in the hold, by the way, because even if you know exactly how the little b(uddy) is supposed to move, it still takes a long time and feels like trial and error.

But it can be done without a custom timer. I, too, like the stock timer's aesthetics too much to change away.

So you really want it to turn south one square west of that spot. Then you can loop it around and send it west again.
I've figured that part out. What I can't figure out is how to get the rattler to be on the column one square right of the obstacle when it becomes time for horizontal movement. The best I can manage is getting it into place the move after horizontal movement can start. Which obviously isn't enough.

EDIT: Never mind, H&S syndrome strikes! Solved.

No idea about the demo, but just in case you're still stuck, a text hint how I did it:

By moving Beethro between columns 19--21 when needed, spin the serpent in and below the niche east of the problem spot to get it facing south in position (20,4) just as the clock is about to strike Horizontal (so, 9, 19 or 29). Beethro should be in column 20, too. Next turn, step west and keep going.
